Hi,
Apologies if this topic has been covered previously but I wonder if you can give me some advice regarding taking a pillion passenger on a Vespa 125 GTS and any potential performance issues, such as hills, acceleration etc.

The journeys will be mostly shortish, no longer than 50 - 80 mile round trips, weekends away etc, in spring and summer.

Thanks

Craig

Hills will cause the scooter to slow but it's all about preparation, looking to the horizon and reading the road ahead. The 250/300's slow a little on hills even without the pillion. Can I ask why you'd want a 125 over the 250/300 if you're going to take a pillion? You obviously must have a full licence to take pillion.

This may sound like a stupid answer, but it depends on the weight of the pillion Nerd emoticon I'm serious- at least my 125 Sprint, being a light weight scoot with not much power, takes e.g. a child easily, but slows down quite a lot with two adults.

The other thing is that Vespa seems to be more sensitive to a pillion than large wheel motorcycles - it has a negative impact to the way the scoot handles and brakes. If you'll just cruise slowly without much traffic, this may not be an issue. Just start out carefully so you'll wont be taken by surprise.

Hi, sorry...I only have my CBT and have still to pass my test. I'll probably stick with my 125 until I can afford to by a 300, assuming I pass my test. My pillion is my wife and she is light to medium build.

Thanks to all the responses so far.

While you have a CBT licence you don't need to worry as you cant carry a passenger with a CBT licence anyway.

while your waiting for your test save your cash and buy a 300 the second you past your test as the 125 two up aint ideal put it that way,
you need the 300 even more so if your trips are 50-80 miles at a time, forget doing them trips all the time on a 125 two up...
