October 2015 issue of Scootering magazine had a really good article about Vjatka scooters See if you can find yourself a copy (if I had a paper one I'd post it to you, but I'm only subscribed to the e-magazine)

Edit: If I had the cash and spare time to restore then I'd definitely have it!

Yes - a Vjatka. It's not a Vespa - its not a licensed production like PGO, Paijifa or Bajaj. it's a copy from Soviet spies observations. Just like everything else the Soviet Union copied from the west during the Cold War.

i almost bought myself one on two different occasions. once, back in about 2000, and an even nicer one that came available about eight years ago.

it's an interesting beast; similar to a vespa but just different enough to make you rub your eyes to make sure you are seeing exactly what you think you are.

while some call them a straight up copy, it's more like an interpretation, thru a blurry lens.

Yeah - definitely a strange interpretation. There was another in depth write up online a while ago but can't find it.

More like taken through a long distance telephoto lense from the passenger seat of a blacked-out Trabant by a man in a black suit and shades 8)

Would love to own a Vyatka (or a Tula) but would be worried about spare parts if anything ever went wrong with it.
Seen a couple of "working" Tula scooters on one of my trips to Ukraine, but not sure how popular they are.

Sounds like a lot of folk swap parts out for standard Vespa stuff, so if you're not too fussed about keeping it entirely original then you should be fine for spares...

I thought I saw somewhere that they are made from much thicker steel, so they weigh a ton.

how rare are these there? Is it like the Leica knock-off cameras that are pretty easy to come by (and can be pretty fun to use) or is it a total disaster of a machine and rare as hens teeth?

they build 300.000 bikes

could not yet drive with it, but I do not expect a lot. shoulld be similar as all vespa wideframe. differences are +15kg and 4.00-10" tyres instead of 3.50-8" like the vespas from this time

the vjatkas were adapted for usage on russian "roads"

want one of these so bad. love the two-tone. <33 also read this:

"It had more bulk, with bigger wheels and thicker metal sheet for the coachwork to suit the harsh terrain."

were these running on bigger than 10" wheels?

Well Trabant were made in Germany, they are not Russian.
This is a cool Vespa copy. I had a Tula Turist 200, such a heavy machine. I wouldn't be surprise if these Russian copy are twice heavy than the Italians.
