Hey everybody, I had a quick question for you guys. My scooter sputters a lot when its cold and smokes too. Do you think this is a choke issue or is this normal behavior until the engine warms up? Here is what I am running: 2006 piaggio typhoon, 70cc iron malossi, delortto 17.5 carb, needle clip set to highest position, idle jet 34, main jet 85, the stock airbox and a technigas revolver exhaust.

Sounds like a choke issue. If the engine starts quickly, the choke is working just fine for that.

How long does it take to smooth out? If it's only 30 secs or so, I'd just live with it, as the choke typically lags behind engine warm up. Unless you really need to make quick get aways.

A 2T smoking for a short time after starting, if it has been standing idle for several hours is not unusual. There is residual fuel/oil in the crankcase, the fuel evaporates and leaves the oil behind. Thus, there's a bit of extra oil for a bit at the next start up.

The engine does start pretty quickly but not as fast as it used to. I think it might just be because it is getting a lot colder outside. Once I start riding it smooths out in under 30 seconds so I guess i could live with it. As long as I'm not hurting the engine in any way im happy.

These things are like snowmobiles, they start right up when it is cold. Check your compression. It's probably lost a bit since you installed the kit. Is your carb manual choke?
