I couldn't find it, there was a thread not long ago about a license plate holder where the license plate slides out in case one wants to remove it quickly off the bike. Anyone remember it or where to buy it?

What's the point of of this device and is it even legal to use? Someone like to educate me on this. My first initial reaction was it would be an easy target for theft or tampering. Don't get me wrong I do think the device is cool.

I think in some necks of the woods people steal license plates. As to the legality, it is probably illegal not to show the plate but that could be fixed by painting the details onto the body , behind where the plate goes. (With a note saying original removed to thwart thieves)

I think in NYC if you pull the plate they can't write you a ticket. Last time i was there i saw a lot of scooters with no plates. Might have changed now, tho.

It's very difficult to issue a parking citation without a license number against which to cite it.

I've had several parking enforcement officials Tell me this. Further, many of them can't issue a ticket for a missing plate. So, many people whohave the plate-puller, park wherever they want, pull the plate and go.

I have had NY bikes in my service department. To confuse matters worse they also use a brother machine to reprint and overlay the second half of their public vin number.

Why is it confusing? Because we have a hard time finding the service history when it's entered into our system half with correct vin (from registration or frame) and half with a false number (public vin).

Whatever lol...

Setting aside for the moment the fact that serves only the purpose of breaking traffic and parking laws - around here that will get you a far worse fine for operating a motor vehicle without displaying valid registration. Big fine and possible impoundment of your scooter. Doesn't sound real clever to me.

I was born in NY and lived in Portland, OR for years as an adult.

Having said that NY's finest has bigger fish to fry than worrying about scooter parking I'm pretty sure.

😀

I'm with SDG on this one. Parking is expensive in NYC. We all break laws,so i wouldn't get to upset with what they do. Also the poor Vespa's on NYC are all beat up. Cagers are not nice to them.

Mostly intended for parking. Parking flexibility is a benefit of owning a scooter. Plate goes back on the bike when riding...

Contrary to popular belief in NYC parking illegally gets you ticketed and towed. Pulling your plate makes it an abandoned vehicle and tampering with your vin will get you arrested. Yes some people get away with it and some don't I guess it's the luck of the draw.
