That's an old classic.

The guy's foot-dragging riding style is anathema to most performance riders, but he seems to get away with it.

Certainly enhances the drama and excitement.

I agree, fantastic dismount! It needs a bit more of a story line to earn big points though - ie someone waiting for their pizza and looking at their watch then looking a bit depressed because they now have to pay for it as it was delivered on time. It does look like they stuck magnesium sliders under the bike to get the sparks - nice effect though. Couldn't work out why he keeps putting his foot out on the corners - I can't see it helping much if the big did slide.

Here's the original short trip movie (The rendevous). 1976, Paris at 5am, camera clipped to front of the Ferrari, one take, no stunts and no CGI:

^^ classic clip right there. C'était un rendez-vous.

There are some myths attached to the film. It is not quite what it claims. Regardless, it's an incredible piece of film-making.

Taxi is a classic and obviously a slap at Rendezvous. The dismount at the end is classic. I hadn't seen this one in a while, thanks for sharing

Perhaps on the street. You'd be surprised, if you watch dirt or MX at all, that's how they corner. If you don't use your feet that way, you'd be the odd man out.

It makes sense on dirt where the riders have stiff boots and they can slide their feet in the dirt to support the sliding rear end. On tarmac in trainers you'll just break your ankle

SuperMoto riders would respctfully disagree:

I agree with you in general and you'd never see me do it on a scooter unless there's gravel, but I think if there's danger of sliding out like on the Taxi scooter, it's good practice.

That might be OK at walking pace but at faster speeds your ankle will simply snap. I believe motocross boots are actually designed to slide on any surface so you don't get an impact. Trainers, on the other hand, are designed to grip which means your ankle will go from dangling lose to having to support you (and the scooter) travelling at 40mph. Personally I wouldn't try it but then perhaps I have dainty ankles

I've had to put my foot out around a corner before, it stopped me low siding my scoot. Just never lock your knee and you should be fine! If you have small legs though...oooh.
