My 2010 LX 150ie have gone through 4 speedo cables till date, and the speedometer failed yet again. I even have to change the entire meter last October due to the connection at the meter breaking off.

Just drop off my scooter at the workshop and received a call telling me the meter connection broke off again, and I have to get a new meter.

I did a quick search and didn't find anything. So my question is, is this normal? Is this the standard Piaggio quality that I have to accept as a Vespa rider? Or is this bad workmanship by my workshop?

Appreciate any insight guys!

On my second set of Instruments myself and only have around 7-7500 miles on the clock.

Speedometer is getting kinda jumpy so this is telling me the grease is going hard.

You're the only other person I have come across that has also needed a new cluster... So I wouldn't think its a quality issue.

You can slide the inner out very easily and re grease if necessary to keep in tip top condition. The outer cable shouldn't need replacing everytime but if its too old it will cause the new inners to keep on failing. Also its good to lube up the cluster end and the worm drive at the wheel end to stop any snagging or snapping. Doesn't need doing often at all.

I guess we still have analogue gauges so they will need maintaining to a point,

Hope you get it fixed and don't have to wait for a new cluster for months, it was impossible to get a new one for my s. Waited months to find out Vespa do not make them anymore!

Settled with one off ebay with 800 miles on the clock.

Lx 150 speedo fail unsolvable to date
I have had problems with speedo cables also.
The plastic tip of the speedometer cable failed at 10,000 km. I replaced the entire cable, including the housing, and it failed again. I took it to a repair shop to replace the entire cable and the speedometer cluster and it failed again within seven kms.
I inquired at my local motorcycle dealer who felt that the plastic tip on the cable was of poor quality and so he crimped an aluminum tip from a snowmobile application onto the cable which also failed as it become separated from the cable
I have manually spun both speedometers and there is little resistance in either of them. I have inserted the cable into the hub and spun the front wheel and observed rotation of the cable
The only thing that hasn't been replaced is the drive mechanism from the front hub, however I can't understand how a malfunction at the far end of the cable could cause of failure at the speedometer end of the cable.

Does anyone have any ideas ?
Many thanks for your consideration

I had problems with quality with my turn signals and other switches. I have a '07 bike and needed to swap out the turn signal switch so i decided to swap out all of them. New ones were cheap and had the shop put my originals back in. You have a earlier bike so see if you can find a older cable. To bad you live overseas because i have a extra one that's been sitting in a drawer for 9yrs. My brake cable snapped 9yrs ago and when i ordered a new one i got a speedo cable also. Is the cable catching on something? I put some dielectric grease at the connections of things. Don't know if it helps. I'm going to start using one called Dow Corning insulating compound. Get it on amazon. Not expensive. Good luck

G i have the same year and model Vespa. Weird how yours has failed and mine hasn't. Is it caught on anything in there or near anything?
