Nice thing. Would nevertheless be useless here, as I could never convince the missus not to ride her own Vespa. Would have been a cool asset if the kids were 20 years younger...

How much does it affect handling.

Putting a hack on any scooter will affect the handle tremendously. Pros: nice to have on in lousy weather (windy, rainy) as it puts more rubber on the road. A wider track also is good in the snow. Best reason - gives people the ability to ride that have balance problems. Cons: no longer flickable, front tires wear faster and slower to boot. Like anything else in life, there are trade offs. If properly set up and you have enough horsepower to push it, hacks can be a lot of fun. I had one on a old Airhead BMW and it was a great ride.

I had a GTS with Texas Via sidecar for several years. I did not notice unusual wear of the front tires (the hack tire seemed like it was likely to last forever). What I noticed were more rapid wear of the rear tire and of the CVT belt. And yes, the extra weight and drag do slow the scooter down somewhat. Sidecars are fun, in my opinion, but a whole different riding experience. As they don't lean, you basically steer them by muscling the handlebars and by shifting your weight on the seat.

As sidecar outfit rider for over 40 years----like them. But think GTS with sidecar would maybe be too slow for US traffic.

Drive line maybe not engineered for extra load, steering damper required, etc, etc----still would be fun

Texas Sidecar in US now out of business

I think the sidecar would be fun_ on the flats. My Ural still seems underpowered on neighborhood hilly streets and is slow as molasses on the freeway.

It looks fun! I could take my dogs for a ride.

Actually, they like running after me when I ride my Vespa around our farmhouse and out across the hazelnut orchard behind us.

There was a fellow in Lake Oswego a few years ago who rode his old BMW with sidecar all over town, with his faithful golden retriever in the side car beside him! It always made me smile.

As an unintended consequence of its size and weight, it would serve as a pretty decent theft deterrence solution.

After all, it would be pretty hard to lift the scoot and sidecar into a toerag's white van.
