Hi everyone.
Another case of "it won't start" here. I've read all the posts, read the manual and tried just about everything so I'm reaching out to the community for any thing I may have missed before surrendering to the dealer.
Here is the situation:
When the key is turned the engine cranks but doesn't start.
Some Facts:
2009 GTS250. 10,500 miles. Garage kept. All maintenance done per schedule by a Vespa dealer. Other than the fuel pump(s), never had an issue
The story:
I had my THIRD fuel pump recently replaced and rode 40 miles home from the dealer. I parked for several months then tried to start it. As the engine turned over a pool of gas formed underneath. Upon investigation I saw that one of the hoses on the fuel tank (the front one) had come off. I suppose the mechanic didn't send it home to properly seat it and it vibrated lose during my trip home, Being mechanically inclined , I saw this as no big deal to fix myself and did not want to bother with the hassle of returning the bike so I used a small pry bar to reinsert the connector. "Snap 1" it went in, but at the same time "Snap 2" and I broke the other connector! After throwing a bit of a tantrum, I ordered a replacement hose. I spent a good part of this weekend removing and replacing the tank to correct my error. Now that everything is put back together, I can't get the scooter to start
I am assuming that these actions are related to the starting issue, could be something not related but my bet is that I messed something up.
My diagnosis so far:
Key turned and I hear the pump "whirl"
Disconnected both hoses on the engine and there is plenty of gas there. I didn't crank the engine with the hoses off
Checked fuses 2,3,4 and 8 - all good
Flicked kill switch several times
oh, yes - filled tank with gas too
Hold brake when starting, brake light goes on
Battery is in great condition, used tender while it was sitting
tried both blue and red keys
Next up - I will inspect the air cleaner to be sure no one has taken up residence there. Then will pull the plug to check for gas and spark.
Could it be that when the hose came off some other damage could have happened? Looking forward to the feed back
