My 6 year old was paging through her baby album this morning when she happened upon a picture of her in front of my scooter with my huge winter gloves on. She must have been maybe two or so in the picture.

She came to me upset, pointed at the picture and said that she really missed my scooter. As soon as she said it she burst into tears.

I told her she can buy me a new one when she gets older...

There's something magical about a Vespa that I've not found in a motorcycle. Even on my favorite motorcycles I could never really escape the feeling I was on a machine. The Vespa is like being a bird.

I bet your daughter senses that and understands the loss you've experienced even though you may be in great denial....

Once again, I think Steve hits the nail on the head. As nice as motorcycles can be, Vespas are another thing entirely...and my response to riding one goes along with this. And this appeal clearly transcends age.

I think you are onto something here. You don't usually see 6-year-olds cry about NC700s.

That's the passion that Vespa inspires.

Hey Midnight-you just didn't notice, but those were tears in my eyes the first time I saw you climb up on that thing. Kilo and Nor did the same-wiping them away as you turned your head. It just wasn't right.

Told you that you had two smart, beautiful kids, a wonderful and understanding wife and an awesome puppy. They are just allowing you this walk over to the "other" side. Reluctantly, we will all welcome you back as soon as you come to your senses.

Thank God your kids take after their mother!

Nice story.

In 2015 i sold two scooters: one LML 150 and one Honda CN250 (Helix in the US).

I can´t understand why but everytime we go to the garage my daughter (she´s 9) reproaches me for selling the... Honda. The ugly one. And she never went for a ride on that scooter (probably that´s the reason).

She keeps telling me: "You should have sold the Vespa (Bianca) or the LML (Azeitona) instead of the Honda (Nave)." All my scooters have names.

Clearly she likes spaceships !

It´s difficult to understand kids.

It sounds to ME like someone should be getting a well-kept Primavera in about 10 years.

Well, scooters are just cute. The car my parents had when I was born was a Citroen 2CV and I loved it in a way I didn't love any of their subsequent cars, because the 2CV had more character.

Also, motorbikes are a little scary. I find them scary. That's why I ride a giant scooter instead!

That's because you ride all the wrong motorcycles Steve. BMWs and Triumphs are built by analytical people with no sense of spirit. A good Japanese bike would make you change your mind and I don't mean a Crotch Rocket. Any Metric cruiser would put your mind at ease. Heck you might even be the Indian Chief or Harley Road Glide type.

Midnight. if you are anything like me, and if you had kept the Vespa after buying the NC, you would find that when it came to picking a ride for the day, the Honda would be left in the garage much more than the scooter.

I put more than 10,000 miles on my NC in the first year of ownership. Long rides to the midwest and mountains ate up much of the mileage. But in the last year, it has collected dust while I ride the more fun machines.

We are all different, but I bet you will be considering adding a scooter back of these days.

I do miss my thermoscud now that it is winter, but I have not started missing the scooter yet. That might be because I commute to work, 20 of the 22 miles are on the loop going 70 or above. With the GTS there was just nothing left at those speeds.

The deal I made with my wife was that if I get the NC I have to get rid of the scooter, the garage is just not big enough for two cars and two PTW...

Sometime in the future I am sure I will reevaluate.
