Hello,

My daily driver 2009 GTS 250 won't start this morning.
It cranked a few times then stopped. It sounded like the battery was running out of juice. I checked and the battery is good.
It struggled a bit last night after work but started and I rode home fine.
This morning it struggled but won't start at all.
What are the possible root causes? I am suspecting the starter is crapping out but not sure.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Khang

How old is the battery? What is the temp outside? Do you use a tender? Do you have a volt meter?

It's the battery
I removed the battery and took to the store to test.
It shows about 7 volts under load.
Got a new Yuasa YTX 14-bs and it's being charged right now.
Hopefully everything will be back in working order tomorrow.
It's killing me sitting in the car commuting to work.

We had snow last week, tell me about it. I rip the hair out of my head sitting in the car.

Do check the voltage the regulator is supplying once you get the new battery hooked up otherwise you may find yourself in the same position a dozen starts or so down the road.

Does this mean checking the voltage at the battery terminals while the bike is running? What should the voltage be for a healthy reading?

Thanks,
Khang

Yes. Specifics are in the wiki (https://modernvespa.com/forum/wiki-diagnosing-charging-system-problems) but essentially you want 14v to 15.2v with the engine running at 3000rpm.
