After 10 years of riding, I've just had my first crash. Ouch. Ambulance to the hospital and now waiting to hear what the damage is (to me...the scooter is fine thankfully!)....

So sorry. Healing thoughts sent your way. Hang in there. You'll be back in the saddle before you know it. Well at least one of you came out ok. When i had my bad crash in '06 i could of bought a dealership if i had to pay for my hospital bill. My bike was ok also. Me,not so much. Broken neck.

Thanks all for the support, I'm feeling the love
After hours of waiting, some x-rays and lots of IV meds, I'm now tucked up in a hospital bed, waiting for surgery on my knee tomorrow morning. It's looking like I have a fractured hand, a few broken fingers, and one buggered knee. That aside, I'm ok! And looking at the damage to my boots, gloves, jacket and helmet, it's a real endorsement for wearing 'all of the gear, all of the time'. Will be back on the Vespa in no time at all 8) |

howdy and more healing thoughts from the north left coast of the colonies. i was in england for 6 weeks this autumn. found the traffic a bit overpowering but people seemed to show restraint and we got through. my brother-in-law is a plane spotter so we were at some airport like heathrow, gatwick, luton, etc every day or so. thus being in the traffic que a lot.
all the best and get out of hospital soon---the people there are sick ken |

Hi all! Am now out of hospital and back home
Crash was a total front wheel lock up. Had to do an emergency stop and just grabbed too hard. Went down heavily on my left side, mostly on my left hand and left knee. Had the bike on top of me (think I was still holding that damned front brake!) as I slid along the road, so cushioned the impact for it and hence no damage (well, some very slight scuffs to the mirrors). As for me, had to have my knee opened up in surgery yesterday for an arthroscopy (translation - check for damage) and debridement (getting all the gravel out of the wound). Although it scraped down to the bone, I'm told there is no real damage and I can have the stitches out in 2 weeks. The hand and finger will take about 6 weeks to fully heal apparently. I have no hesitation in getting back on my scooter as soon as I can - all my protective gear performed brilliantly, and aside from my knee (no protective trousers) and hand (full impact of me and bike at speed) I am unharmed |

That's the right attitude. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger,as they say. Take your pain meds for a few days. They really help.

Welcome back! Thanks for letting us know the story - been there done that with the lockup, but I was luckier than you on the physical side.
