At take-off the scooter shudders somewhat violently. To minimize the shudders I have to give 3/4 throttle, but the result is a slight lag before a jarring engagement. What could be causing this? What other information can I give you to diagnose the problem? Is it okay to continue to ride the scooter with this issue?

While I'm thinking about it, the belt and rollers were replaced 6,000 miles ago.

sounds like you need to service the clutch and drive pulley.

i'd recommend doing the belt and rollers while you're in there.

I was kind of thinking this ^^^^. Time to order parts. Thx greasy125

I know there's a lot of variables that determine wear and tear, but is there a reasonable range in miles one can expect to replace belt and rollers?

znomit thanks for the link. Very interesting reading.

i generally do trans service on kymco air-cooled 125/150's at 5K so you're right in the wheelhouse, so to speak.

if you've not gone thru the clutch and pulley (surfacing, checking, lubing) it would be a good idea to do so. more than likely the drive pulley is just super crusty and needs cleaned and lubed. surface the clutch and bell and lube all the moving bits and you should be good to go.

also, i believe that there's an aftermarket belt available that's substantially cheaper than the OEM kymco unit-- but is high quality. either way, those parts aren't too spendy.

don't forget to do the guides while you're in there!

holler at me if you need anything and i'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Verify clutch assembly is not warped.

Purchase a variator/clutch holding tool . . resource.

Variator weight video . . flying rollers may be an option, if you're up to trying something a little less conventional.

I just took aparta Kymco Yager with 9K miles, and the clutch bell had blued. If you have the 125mm clutch bell Kymco shares with Honda, options are plentiful, if you have the 130mm, your options are much more limited. Polini makes a clutch and discontinued making a bell, Malossi is in the process of making a clutch, with no plans as far as I know to make a bell, Dr. Pulley makes a very expensive clutch and bell, and CIF and a few other companies make aftermarket transmission parts including bells. . There are a couple of people on Ebay in Taiwan who have a lot of parts for Kymco scooters, but I don't know if you're getting stuff made in Taiwan, or Chinese parts.

Thanks greasy125, tortoise and Motovista 8)

I have tools like metric socket kit, torque wrench except the variator/clutch holding tool. But if someone would like to give me a rundown of the tools required I appreciate it. I should probably get calipers to check the clutch pad tolerance.

As for lubing CVT parts where specifically do I do that?
