Hi all,
hoping someone has asked someone here this question before, and there is an answer out there.

I have a 1961 VNB 2T, and the electrics are all going to pot. Ive been trawling the web, and cannot find an electrical diagram for this model, with a battery..... I have been on scooter help and found the diagram relating to my bike. And all the wires coincide with the loom and cables i just bought. But the diagram is without a battery. Now I'm struggling.

The wiring around the battery is a bit of a mash-up so its making life a little harder.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I have a '62 VNB w/completely stock electrics and it has no battery. Batteries were added to later US bikes to comply w/ DOT regs but I'd be surprised if your '61 originally had one. Maybe, if it was one of those odd Euro variations that some models had w/ earlier factory battery. Where is this battery and how about a pic of it as mounted & the mishmash wiring there? Also, should be a regulator/rectifier somewhere if there's a battery.

The battery was retro fitted, to fit the electric start i guess.

The battery and regulator and flasher are in left side rear wheel arch compartment.

Its all a bit of a muddle really, we have yellows and greens going to reds, and there are lights hardwired. on the right side at the stator plate, there is a docked blue, and a red coming from the regulator attached to an unknown black. Wiring not my strong point

Ouch! that is a mess... Sorry, it's unlikely anyone can speculate over the internet how that's 'supposed' to be, it's certainly not stock.

Is this 12V w/ an LML motor? Who did the conversion?
And flasher? Are there turn signals mounted?

Could you take a picture of the engine side? And the whole bike?

I'll second this request. That's quite a cluster of wires there. It might also help to tell us of your location as someone close by may be able to help.

Also does it run now or did it when you got it & do any lights/horn work now?
If the motor does run well are you willing to give up the electric start?

Now I wonder what size wheels you have. If the motor is LML they come w/ 10", but 8" is stock on a VNB.
Waiting for more pics... Popcorn emoticon

All the electrics have worked, the electric start was first to go. Then main beam headlight. The Flasher is for indicators which have been removed, so i guess i can go ahead and remove flasher.

Behind the stator plate is a Ducati CDI unit, which i think might be the cause of the problem, but after reading up about it, there is no way i can find of testing this, unless it is on a fully functioning bike. So I'm thinking of replacing the CDI unit like for like.

I have a brand new loom, fit for this bike, and am wondering if my best option, is to start over, fit new loom, then start over again with the install of the battery/regulator for the electric start. Has anyone done this before and have a nice system of fitting?

Im currently in Palma de Mallorca in Spain, if anyone is out there!

Someone replaced the VBB engine with either a P series of LML engine and tried to bodge together the electrical.

It doesn't look like a "vietbodge" scoot to me from the few pics, just a hack job on the electrical. But look here ( Bodgespotting (Page 56) ) to see if anything looks familiar or post a pic of the whole bike for an opinion from the group

If it is just a half assed job of putting a newer engine in an old frame, try using Daniel at Scooterhelp's tutorial on wiring

http://scooterhelp.com/restorations/vbb.electrics.html

There's probably newer and better jobs out there, but that's what I used.

Hmmm we need more pics, but I'm leaning towards bodge that's maybe had a motor transplant & crap wiring job after 'nammer motor exploded? I've checked all my scoots & others too, but never seen this combination of both lock AND latch lever on the toolbox door EXCEPT on scooters from Asia. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong....

as usual, the paint looks really impressive

If the bike is from Asia, the frame may be fine but you do need to be extra wary - look here also for what to watch for: Why not to buy a bodge. In case u wondered. Now, WITH PICTURE

I missed the lock and latch combo. Honestly without a photo of the whole bike, it is hard to say.
