Modern Vespa

Hi,
I have a P200E sitting in my backyard, ready to donate its engine to my 125 g.t.r. (basically a Sprint Veloce).
The engine in question is from 1981.

I want to stick with premix, so I'll have to disable the autolube. Maybe in the future I'll change the tank and switch to oil injection, but not now.

About the electrical system... what do you think it's the best way to go? Replace the whole wiring harness on the bike with a new one or keep the existing one and add the regulator?
The wiring on the receiving Vespa (g.t.r.) is in good condition (FYI it does not have a battery), the one on the donor (p200e) is visibly in poor condition and patched here and there.

I know I will have to replace the brake switch and light bulbs.

I'm a bit confused reading about all the different types of stator. Would it be better to get a euro-style stator? If so, why?

Have a look at Beedspeed and search for their looms. They sell an add-on section for looms for just what you're doing.

I have a some extra info: the stator on the engine I want to use has 7 wires coming out.

These wires are in really bad shape. I'm surprised the engine was running! I started it just yesterday!

I also have another P200E sitting (with a broken engine case) that I can butcher.
The stator of this second one has only 5 wires coming out.
Does it mean it's a battery-less Euro style stator?
Should I use this one?

Yes I'd use that one if it's functioning. The Beedspeed part loom should match that stator.
As far as I'm aware, the 5 wire stators are all the same. I think if you want to use a battery with it you simply use the battery type regulator.

Yeah, I think you're on the right track. I put a P200 motor with that stator in my Euro Sprint and just ran that blue hot lead to a 12 V regulator from Treatland( https://www.treatland.tv/universal-moped-voltage-regulator-p/moped-voltage-regulator.htm ) and out to the Euro no battery stock harness. Used the right type brake & light switch and I think a little fiddling w/ the horn & brake lite wiring and bright lights all around and horn works too.

V oodoo, I have a 3 poles regulator I can use, which I believe it is just a regulator and not a rectifier-regulator. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I am trying to put together all the info I read online.

So here are some considerations:

1) with a 5 wires stator (white, red, green, black and blue) and a 3 poles regulator, my system will be 12v AC.

2) Apparently I could keep the 6v AC horn and it will work.

3) I will need to change the brake switch (I'm going to take it from the P200E I'm using for parts).

Do I have to modify the light switch? How?
Will the kill button work?

You shouldn't have to change the light switch, just bulbs to match whatever voltage you will be running. Brake switch you're already on top of. As far as the killswitch leave the switch alone and you could use the existing harnesses kill wire and run a jumper to the P200 motors CDI in case the harness wire is too short (4th slot over on the CDI is for the kill wire).

Only other thing if you want the horn to work may be to swap the light switch for the one w/ the horn button that makes contact when pushed rather than breaking contact if that's the type there now.

Actually you will need to change the brake light switch. The P uses a different type.

The description is helpful to understand what's happening. I see this one is out of stock but if you call Scooter Mercato he'll be able to fix you up (his website doesn't describe the function well enough to say which one to get).

And yes, the horn will work equally badly on 6 or 12 volts.

Change the brake switch to closing type. Replace the black ground wire by the brake switch with a new power wire (colour by choice..), the two old blue wires in the loom you connect to each other, nowhere else.

Red kill wire you connect to second green on CDI.

Horn should work.

With that regulator the blue from stator goes to yellow on reg.

From yellow on regulator a split connected to yellow, green and the new (colour by earlier choice) wire from brake switch.

Ground the black from stator on engine and connect to black on regulator.

I have a p200 in my sprint...
The stator is the type with the one blue wire. I don't run a battery.
I replaced the harness with a serie pro one from sip.
The only issue I'm having, is when you step on the brake pedal, the headlight dims a bit...

I run premix, the oil gear removed, and blocked with the aluminum plug from Piston Ported. I had to pull the little metal sleeve from the bottom of the carb box with a pair of needle nose pliers. If I remember right you need to keep the oiler gear behind the clutch for proper spacing...

Thanks to Bar Italia Classics, I have everything working properly, without changing any switch at all. I had the 7 wires stator rewired and two small voltage regulator placed under the gas tank. I replaced all light bulbs with 12v ones and that's it.

Hi- I know this is a long shot— but do you still have the p200e bodies. I looking to get a choke tube assembly to replaced the one on my p200 that I fudged up trying to pull a cable end out of the tube!

hey if you're looking to buy a whole frame I might know a guy. I'm in socal so I don't know what the shipping would be but know you've got an option.

I'm actually in Arizona for the winters. I'm actually looking for a donor/derelict body with a choke tube that can be salvageable. I really don't need the whole body. That said, send me more details when you get them. Thanks for your effort👍
