Modern Vespa

Hello all members!

I am new here and I think this forum is really awesome. I found many posts but none with my problem .


I own piaggio mp3 yourban 300. Scooter is 3 years old and since now I did not have any problems with it. Mp3 became unreliable and I must fix this issue to be happy again. PLEASE HELP ME!! I am getting desperate here. So facts are.

1) BATTERY IS GOOD AND CHECKED
2) STARTER MOTOR WAS DISASSEMBLED AND CHECKED
3) STARTER RELAY WAS REPLACED WITH NEW ONE

Any suggestions please?

Ignition sometimes works, sometimes not. So i measured voltage and time when it works (Starter button sends electricity for 6 seconds to starter relay. When not it sends only for a second and starter relay loose the connection).

you say battery is good, but how old is it? whats the static voltage reading? do you use a maintainer on it?

This really looks like a weak battery issue to me.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Battery is 2 years old. I will check the voltage before ignition and between / after ignition first thing in the morning and let you know. I will also try to get a new one for testing.

Sure sounds like a battery to me.

Battery is ok. Checked with multimeter it reads 12,8 v when idle and 12,5 when starting. I also tried a new one from friend.

We all know that italians weak spot is electricity so I am going to do the following.

I will remove all the plastics to get to e. components. Then I am going to check both main grounds motor and battery to frame.

Then I am going to check the starter button and brake switch.

Anyway, I am going to permanently connect the start button with the battery and starter relay. I am also going to change starter relay for 120A japanese one .

About the exhaust. Its original factory muffler. But I already have dual akrapovic exhaust (i live approx. 100 km from factory).

I will post the pictures after installation .
