My scooter is idling rough at just over 1000 rpms. With throttle it runs fine but wants to stall at idle. Also takes a bit to start. Any suggestions appreciated. 07 x9 500 piaggio.

Check the air filter and spark plug. When was it serviced last and how many miles are on it?

I have replaced the spark plug and have a filter on order. I have also changed the oil when the oil light came on. Started happening soon after the oil change w. |

The oil light means you lost oil pressure - not a good sign.
The rough idle could be damage from lack of oil or a dirty throttle body. At that age and with only 2000 miles on it it's not had a lot of use, and the throttle body could well be a bit gummed up. |

If I remember correctly, the 07's were still carbureted. My deepest apologies for asking a stupid question, but sometimes it's the stupid stuff: have you tried adjusting the Idle screw?

This is fuel injection. I have cleaned the throttle body with out removing it but have not tried adjusting.

Ahh, ok. Well, it could be a sensor issue, but I'm not ready to go there yet. I'm assuming you aren't getting any FI codes since you haven't mentioned such. The fuel injection systems I've worked on do still have an idle screw. Not having a service manual for the BV500, I can't say for certain, and the online resources I've found aren't loading on the crappy network I'm on at the moment. This could be all it is, and you can go back to idling.

There is a screw - BUT DO NOT ADJUST IT. It is factory pre-set, and the ECU won't work properly if it's adjusted. Big WARNINGS in the service manual.
Something else is up. |

In that case then I'd suspect something with the MAP sensor, but without having the scoot in front of me and without any diagnostic tools, all I can do is conjecture.

There is a star bit adjustment screw but I havnt touched it. I could remove the throttle body and clean it but its a tight squeeze . Someone else said it could be my fuel pump going out so that's an option I guess. There aren't any piaggio dealers around me for a diagnostic test.
