For yesterday the forecast was for rain. Hurray! A fantastic day for a ride. The ride started at 8 a.m. Clouds were coming from the west. Couldn't feel happier. After a 40 km highway express-ride to escape the city the familiar country roads welcomed my CB with open asphalt. Saw one bike heading into the city and that was it for PTWs that morning. I wondered why. The rain started. Gently. I also rode gently - it was the first rain after a loooooong dry spell. Who knows what kind of stuff gets flushed out of the cracks in the pavement. Rode to Belfountain via the scenic Forks of the Credit River Road. But before getting to Belfountain I took a slight detour to a provincial park and went for a hike in the forest, dancing in the rain.
The Belfountain restaurant's parking lot was completely devoid of motorcycles. Chickens. I took a break there, sitting on a bench (screened porch) by an entrance to the restaurant, and was rewarded by the sight of a young lady in really short shorts cleaning the entrance door. Aaah, rain...long slender legs...life was perfect.
From there the ride continued along Mississauga Road and Charleston Road and Hwy 9 to a Simcoe County forest for a hike number two. The rain stopped for a little while, allowing for lunch and a nap. Two enduro bikes rode by. As soon as I closed the sandwich box the rain started again (interestingly, I used the sandwich box during the dry spell, as well, and it didn't trigger rain). "Gently" changed to "cats and dogs". Joyfully I mounted the wet CB and headed back towards Toronto. Normally I follow unpaved roads from there to the city of Vaughan, but this time I decided to behave abnormally and took the main paved roads. Riding with slicks on muddy side roads.... It worked very well...for a while. Then a side road caught my attention, so I joined it. While it was a dirt road, and gentle rain alternated with cats and dogs (and rhinos and elephants for a few minutes), there was no mud and the rubber side stayed down.
The final stretch of the ride witnessed the clouds departing and sun returning. It was after 1 p.m.
This was my first "real rain" experience on a naked bike and it was quite good. I remained dry, with just a few body areas getting damp.
When I got back home I rained on the bike some more to clean it. A perfect day.
