Hello. Been lurking for a while since I rescued this rust bucket from Craigslist a few years ago. Just starting to have the time to get into it and noticing the VIN on the title is actually the engine number.

The VIN on the chassis is quite rusted. I think I have:

VBB2T ✬ 246862 ✬ IGM13800M

Any other ideas?

What is the last part with either IGM or 1GM?

I've just been checking that site out. At least I know what IGM stands for now.

Any luck with what you can make out for the VIN?

If you don't mind getting rid of some of the rust to find out what the frame numbers are, use OSPHO metal cleaner and a wire brush. It will remove that rust with no problem.

The frame will be media blasted eventually, but i do have some naval jelly and another rust remover around. Is OSPHO more effective? I've never used it.

it's effective enough that you'll want to wear eye protection, rubber gloves, and a respirator...

The first two characters look like "V1" to me (the base of the "1" seems too broad to be a "B," but who knows what will turn up after you scrub rust away). Where do you live / did you find the bike? Context clues can help us.

I second using Ospho, good stuff. You can brush it on easily and it will turn the rust a dark blue/black. It is an acid, so use some eye protection.

After a little wire brushing you can either do a pencil rub onto a piece of paper to see the numbers better or my prefered method of smearing a little paint across the vin number.

It's a 1965 150 VBB2T (I'm assuming). I'm in Minnesota. I got it I think in 2014 off Craigslist. I wish I had known about the VIN then, but I now now the VIN on the title is the engine number (got it from Wisconsin)

What else could it be? It fits the serial number range for 1965 and the last two characters of the prefix is 2T. Right?
