I have never owned a scooter before and always wanted one. I've been a motorcycle rider for 16 years. I've always wanted a Vespa but they're pricey.
I found my 2007 GTS 250 with 7k miles on Craigslist for 500 US dollars.
The reason it was so cheap is a) the guy was awarded it due to a riminal tenant that left town, and didn't know what it was worth and b) it had a melted wiring harness and no signs of starting.
Buying it was a gamble as I didn't know what else was wrong with it.
I somehow beat the other dozen buyers and got it.
After replacing the wiring harness and spark plug, it started right up.
I then proceeded to change every fluid and do all the maintenance required for a scooter with 9-12k miles.
I also discovered the voltage regulator was bad and replaced that for 40 bucks.
I just wanted to say that it has worked perfectly ever since, it is a blast to ride and I haven't had any issues with it.
I know people have problems with theirs but after 1000 miles, mine is running like a champ. It is banged up and somewhat ugly due to the previous owner's abuse, but it runs perfectly.
I don't often find great deals, but I have to consider this one of my best.
