So after a few really really good months of riding the scoot everyday and having not a single problemo, tonight after not having ridden the scoot for four days went to start it and it was not starting easily. I would hold the start button as usual and it was just not biting, i pulled the throttle all the way and it was almost there and nope, did it again, nope , third time it started.
The night was cold, but this has never been a prob before.
Bike is a 2010 gts 300
6500kms on it

what on earth could cause this and has this every happened to anyone, does it mean anything, etc?

Why twist the throttle when starting a fuel injected motor?

If your Vespa is on its original battery, it likely needs changed.

I have found out that Vespas need a strong battery to function well.

Usual suspects are the battery dying (especially in winter, and especially if 6 years old), and/or the spark plug/spark plug cap/lead compromised.

If it idles and runs fine once started, then it's unlikely to be a throttle body or injector problem.

+1 to Jimc's comments. You might think about checking the valve clearances.

Might want to swap out the fuel and vacuum lines. They degrade over time and your bike is 6yrs old. You won't be able to see that their bad. Long shot but they should be done anyway. When you find out what the problem is please tell us. Good luck

Well, your battery needs to be charged now, so that would be my first step.

[guess]I would try just lifting the pet carrier and pushing the spark plug cap onto the spark plug. This is easy to do and cheap. Have you tried holding the other brake just in case it's the brake switch. Also try toggling the kill switch on/off a few times just in case. Has it got petrol in? [/guess]

New batteries can die within 6 months. Firstly if they weren't given a full equalising charge before first use, and secondly if they've ever been left not fully charged.

Check the battery anyway - it's the most likely thing.
