What's the best way to get the original tank lid off? There's that peened over pin in there. I'm guessing a file, not sure about using a dremel near a fuel tank. What say you? My vent is giving me issues, cracked the tank during a ride today and things got a lot better. I've tried to clean it out before, I'm ready to just up and replace it. Thanks.
I had this same problem before - could not get the vent cleaned out properly. I ended up opening the tank lid, covering the opening to keep the crap out and with my smallest bit, drilled out the vent hole. Blasted it with air. You would not believe how much junk flew out (glad I covered the opening!). Worked much better than before.
If I could get it off this one could probably be saved by a trip through a parts washer followed by a blast of compressed air. I've already opened the lower holes once.
