Anyone run afoul of the law on Day 1?

End of day 1. Lots of GPS errors one crash but no serious damage other than a need to replace a helmet. 33 registered riders eventually showed so with the 2 last minute substitution the total number that started is 35.

Not sure if this will work, but here goes. Nope did not work. Stay tuned for plan B

Our New Orleans scooter cooperative team member gonzo (absurd ruse)
did pretty good, had some mechanical issues but managed to still have a good run.

Bummer this thread is buried in the ride reports so we can (so far) collect single push pin on a map with no context. The CBR thread usually results in a slew of good scooter information & knowledge and has also been the savior of many riders stuck on the side of the road desperate for any hint of help to get their bike moving again.

Day 1 looked like classic cannonball start but with an excessive amount of 1st day "rookie" errors with navigation problems for returning riders? WTF? Days 1-3 are days to pick up points while others figure out their setup.

AbsurdRuse leads w/ the handicap advantage. He is a solid rider and if he can keep the bike moving he should finish well. But there are 10 more days.

Despite a navigation screw up WLeuthold put up a good score but is tied with FlyGuy2. Will have to watch FlyGuy2 over the next few days and see if he can stay peg'd with WLeuthold.

Rumors Motovista had an issue at the start which could explain his score vs. WLeuthold. Unless Motovista has an excellent Day 2 it may be a long haul to catch up with WLeuthold. Kansas and Nebraksa will be the two days for the higher handicap riders to gain points on the lower handicap riders unless they can out perform them on the more technical final days. I am not sure who is a better technical rider - Motovista or WLeuthold but should be interesting (assuming no breakdowns).

We shall see what day 2 brings!

As an update... I broke my foot (5th metatarsal) Sunday morning moving some stuff around the yard and decided Monday while getting ready to fly to Jacksonville to bag it. My scooter is being stored at Bill's place until I ride or ship it home. Needless to say I am really bummed out about missing what would be a 5th consecutive Cannonball! The wife was supportive of me doing it with a bum foot but I would have been just as cranky on the road as I am staying at home. Getting hurt during the event is one thing but I did not want to burden participants by starting all banged up. So I am limping this one out at home.
