Thankfully the scoot behaved well today though I didn't push it hard being more important to finish than try to improve my position from sixth

Bill rolled into the hotel shortly after I checked in. Walked up the street to Highlands Brew. In my way over I saw Lostboater and Flyguy 2 heading for the hotel followed closely by Classic Rider.
Having by lunch with Bill at Highland Brew & Pizza.

On the standings page . . Bigkart Honda Reflex should be changed to Helix 1986 . . reference posting.

These pics, videos and blogs are great. I keep vocally going "oooh"...."damn" etc. and love this fix.

Apparently someone changed their oil in the parking lot right next to one of the worker's newly painted car blowing oil all over the new paint. Not a way to win friends.

Yes, not only did Gonzo run yesterday but he won the day! His times were not entered until aftah Mark posted the pdf on MV. So that table will change.

Top 5 Riders: Yay, Bill changed his belt ( http://bit.ly/29JBHnw ) - hopefully he cruises into the finish w/o issue!

Today's elevation profile looks lovely with some fun the first and final leg. If a rider was interested in speed/points they'd consider topping off gas before leaving the 1st check point and after the arriving at the 3rd to maximize the downhill leg!

Gonzo is back on the road and dominating the daily scores. As a result Day 8 had a recalculation that did not impact the top 5 rankings - just lowered overall points by 21 for each rider. Two days left!

Is it all just technical riding? Or do you feel more? Is there still a sense of exhilaration or is it all exhaustion and a grind?

Because the sky looks EPIC out there!

And now.....Bigkart, the leader, has not checked in on the day. Does anyone know of his whereabouts?

Gonzo said he left the jets alone for the previous mountains and it just sputtered a little at elevation and no problems.
Classic rider said the same in his blog.

#51 seems to be in Hamilton according to FollowRide.com. Late start or some sort to technical problem???

He is not using SPOT for automated GPS check-ins. He has to post his location using smart phone photo.

Oh, okay, I see that he is now on the move.

BTW, with the Delorme inReach products work with FollowRide and such?

Bigkart arrived shortly after I did. He, Bill, Flyguy2 and Chris Smith headed to Oregon for lunch to click it off their ride maps. Tromped had his Spot along with his spare gas can stolen at a gas/bathroom stop so who knows what's going on there.

I left later today so saw more folks on the road including Bigkart who passed me in a small town going faster than I wanted to tempt fate going. I passed him a bit later when he made a nav error. So Flyguy2 may have a better time than him today. Boater and I passed each other several times today. Once when I stopped at checkpoint2 trying to get a photo of the moose I saw and put on another layer of gloves.

Delorme inReach could work with FollowRide. Currently I am only intergraded with SPOT and photos w/ GPS meta data. I've given the site very little attention since it was developed for the 2012 Cannonball. Prior to the 2014 Cannonball it was migrated into Laravel 4.x and given a cheap facelift with Twitter Bootstrap and some javascript mix-ins - but no real refactor of the code itself or expansion of functionality. For this years Cannonball I did a find/replace on "2014" => "2016" and added new riders to the database. :-/ The site remains a neglected hobby project - there is only so much time!

For most everyday ride following SPOTWalla is a great solution.

Thanks, I think you have done a super job on the site. I was looking at a used inReach and wondered if it would work on FollowRide. Perhaps by the 2018 SCR?

Technically they were not stolen. He went down and they fell off. When he went back to get them after riding down they road, they were not there.

Top 5 Riders: Final day! If BigKart & FlyGuy can keep it running they have 1st and 2nd locked up. I think Classic Rider has a shot at 3rd but it is a long shot!

Nice pic and congratulations to all! Glad there were no major problems. It was fun traveling along in cyberspace. Thanks for the blogs, pictures and the Follow Ride app. Where is the sign up sheet?

another great cannonball for all. loved following everyone this year and saying hi at day 2 check 2.

I did miss not riding it. I will have to buckle down and get my stuff in order for 2018 for sure.

I'll do a blog update with photos tomorrow before I take the scoot, spare tire and replacement for the welded exhaust that made it through the entire cannonball over to be changed when the service to get me back home is done. Off to Cask and Trotter where local scooter riders are welcoming the SOD group's return and other cannonball riders arrival.
