Why don't you just ask your Piaggio dealer what they use instead?

Is this for lubing the steering bearings?

This question has been asked before. I was told by folks on this forum that AGIP grease is recommended because Piaggio has a relationship with AGIP but most people just use their favorite grease, whatever that is.

Dooglas's suggestion is good. Just ask your dealer what they use.

Or I hear many people here use a marine grease. I use Lucas Oil 10301 X-Tra Heavy Duty Grease- 14.5 oz ordered from Amazon. It's a water proof grease that's also all temperature stable.

I think you should avoid grease that's too runny when it gets hot in the summer. Don't want it to drip out of the steering bearing opening all over on your wheel guard.

RED LINE CV-2 Grease
REDLINE CV-2 Synthetic Moly Grease is also a good choice.

grease equivalents
hi,
i've found that dealing with fluids comes down to matching EU standards and if you have the patience to compare spec sheet details.

i contacted motorex about the following greases for the mp3 250 (2007)
they were quick to reply. rare customer service. high points for motorex.
[...]
Thank you for your trust in our products and your choice.

The surched grease for the tone wheel revolving ring is the
MOTOREX GREASE 218 M
(AGIP GREASE SM 2)

The grease MOTOREX GREASE 194
corresponds to the classifications of Agip GR MU ep 3 and is to be applied to the odometer transmission gear case.

Have a good trip.
[..]

so i try to match the european DIN and ISO standards as well as the north american designations like "NLGI level 2".

pay attention to the chemistry and additives like lithium, molybdenum. the temperature range is important to note when you review the spec sheets.

so by example ...
i matched the AGIP SM2 to a shell product because i have trouble finding the motorex product. i would have purchased motorex but sourcing it is similar to sourcing AGIP. difficult.

AGIP SM2 is equivalent to motorex grease 218M.
motorex made the AGIP product match.

the motorex (and AGIP grease) has a DIN of
DIN KPF2K-20

so if you search shell grease and the DIN KPF2K-20 you get a match
i went over the chemistry, added components and use cases and there's a match there. temp range was good too.

that DIN matches the motorex grease motorex supplied me.

the shell product for AGIP SM2 is Gadus S2 V220AD 2

found by searching for shell grease and the DIN
Shell Gadus S2 V220AD 2
Vorherige Namen: Shell Alvania HDX, Shell Retinax HDX
Hochleistungs-Mehrzweckfett mit MoS2 (KPF2K-20)

so finally i can say AGIP SM2 by way of motorex 218M (sorry motorex
had trouble buying that particular motorex grease).

is shell Shell Gadus S2 V220AD 2 as a safe replacement

if you go through a similar process you can find an equivalent
grease that is as available in north american as it is in the USA.

once you find a product that is as available in the US and Canada as it is in the EU it's easier to find more than one competing product. Eg shell, castrol, mobil, esso etc.

i haven't looked at the spec sheet for redline but molybdenum is an essential part of the grease specification for sure.

from what i've learned well chosen solids can buffer or cushion "bump" stressors. molybdenum also has other features like enhancing lubrication properties.

grease cross reference many north american greases listed
hi,
i found this automotive grease cross reference that mentions AGIP, shell, castrol etc.

should be useful. once you find one grease easy to find in north america it's much easier to cross reference to match others.

this table is pretty good.
