One of my customers just posted a 69 50L out in front of his shop. I think someone GAVE it to him. My dumb ass self looked at it and thought....maybe i can get it for 250 bucks and do something to it! What in the world could a 265 pound six foot one man do with a 50L, besides crush it? I might not follow through..... |

There are a lot of things you can do to increase overall performance. I just started out by adjusting my intake. It's not just about volume but also about quality. After a lot of research I went with a high-protein/low-carb mixture. Now I just do basic maintenance like changing fluids and a little bodywork here and there. You'll notice your faster off the line, good for touring and generally more reliable.

Re: Why would I even contemplate messing with a small frame.
50L? Great, but how dare you make this post w/ no pics?

Or let's just say you've already done the looking part. I guarantee you that 200 pound me has NO trouble hauling an extra 65 pounds even on my smallest smallie. ![]() setting off to haul a motor lashed to the floorboards several miles for a friend's bike The 50 Special above has a Polini 80 kit, upgeared primaries, 19 carb and a cheapo Leo Vince pipe. It will get up to or close to maybe 50, but it's peaky and needs all 4 gears w/ lots of shifting. It still has the shorter 50 crank, but you'd be a LOT better off with a longer stroke 90/100 or 125 crank for better low end & torque. Now you can add about any big kit or just a stock 125 Primavera top end. Add at least a 19 carb, and some kind of pipe and you will find out why ppl love these stupid little things, even big guys like you. If it's really a 50L on tiny 9" tires w/3 speed and the motor is or can readily be made 'healthy' as is, I would actually be tempted to rough 'restore' it to it's former glory for putting around the neighborhood. To go faster, you'd probably need to add 10" hubs and 4 speed gearset to your list & it gets more expensive. Easily doable, but you might be surprised how much fun it can be putting around locally at 35 maybe 40 when you know you have your fast shit at home. Now go fetch us some pics! ![]() |
