Been away a while , not had a Vespa for a while

Do now have a piaggio , not a cool vespa though.

Just a general starting the scooter question for the experts.

My x9 wont start on the start button.

I have checked the fuses in both locations and they look good by a continuity tester.

The side stand is up , and the cut off light is off.

If i short the starter relay it start fine, but nothing if just pressing the button.

If the cut off button is down or the side stand is down , it wont start with shorting the relay, as expected

any suggestions of what to look at?

You have to apply the brake before it will start. Squeeze the left brake lever.

I have been riding it for about 6 months.

and it has suddenly happened.

Pull brake , click start nothing.

check side stand and kill switch , both off.

Brake light comes on, all front lights and indicators are good.

Just the start, and if i bypass the relay with a pair of pliers it starts so not the starter motor or engine.
