I thought I'd check up on what it says in the highway code for roundabouts. I was genuinely interested in whether I was wrong. The Highway Code says keep left lane for 1st exit, right lane for last exit, and the 'appropriate' lane for intermediate exits. There are two lanes on the exit so either lane is more than fine for going straight on. Which highway code are you using?

I have a round about that the left lane goes only left, while the right lane can be used to go either right or straight....Do you know how many people will crowd out a scooter, to cut him off, in the left lane to go straight? Plenty, and most don't care! Only when I have my big pickup, I will hold my lane.....happens almost every time I go through there with traffic.....and the round about is not new, been there for 5 years now!

I have never got my head around how a 4-way stop works.

In the US, if I'm turning right, it's fine, but if I'm going left or straight ahead, sometimes I just feel like I need to close my eyes and go for it
First to the jct goes first after stop
If two arrive at same time, car on right has right away.
Car going straight ahead has right of way over car turning left.

You are absolutely correct. It has been the same in the highway code since I learnt to drive in 1982. Roundabouts with two approach and two exit lanes should be used thus: left lane approach for first exit signalling left. Any exit after 12 o'clock should use the right lane and indicate right, merging over to the left and indicating left just before your exit. On a dual carriage way with a roundabout, both lane one and lane two are fair game for going straight ahead, maintaining whichever lane you decide to use. Advanced training teaches something else (straightlining - more straight lining than you have previously mentioned); if the road is clear approach in left, straight line into lane two of the roundabout and exit in lane one of the exit (if you are going straight on and there is no other traffic). Rationale for this, is that it is safer then negotiating the roundabout in a lean, especially when wet or when there is a risk of diesel spills.

Sadly I can only understand parts of what you write.
If it was me, and I'd insulted someone and was then shown to be completely in the wrong, then I'd of just gone for a simple apology.
YMMV

I could try explaining again but something tells me I'd just be wasting my time.
Perhaps it might be worth going further than compulsory basic training?

This is how most Americans imagine themselves in a Roundabout in Britan.

Traffic-circles/roundabouts appear to be a good deal more popular in New Jersey than in my native New York: as a cyclist, I've almost always liked, and as a scooterist I've come to like them even more, although the ones I've recently encountered in my neck of NJ are of the smaller variety (which seems to be the norm in the States). One advantage of smaller roundabouts, IMO, is that I can assess traffic flow in a narrower visual "sweep" than I might in a more Euro-sized circle. Also, most motorists I've observed tend to enter roundabouts in a fairly sober and predictable manner. (And, this in a state whose drivers, let's just say, don't have a rep for either courtesy or patience.)

On the other hand: there are five four-way intersections in town that are downright treacherous, equipped either with semi-obscure Stop signs or, just about as bad, a single, flashing signal (red or yellow, depending on direction), and, just to add that extra frisson of excitement, these run parallel to a pair of very active railroad tracks, with crossings every few blocks. On top of all this, no two intersections are alike in terms of controls - the first has Stop signs, the next has the single flashing signal, the one after this has a standard traffic light...it's downright amazing we haven't had any more fender-benders than we do.

Actually every thing robinm has said about roundabouts is correct and just because someone teaches something doesn't mean that it is correct. Here is a sensible approach to roundabouts:

Straight over: If the left lane is busy, consider using the right-hand or centre lane. Use the same technique on the roundabout, but be observant, making good use of mirrors and/or a 'Blind Spot Check' when exiting.
