A P200e popped up on Facebook marketplace in the East Nashville For Sale group this afternoon.

$600 later, it's mine. (not a typo: Six Hundred Smackaroos)

No title (but clean VIN), no spark, seriously bad gas in the tank, but the gearbox is good and it kicks over freely. Two worries are that while it's been indoors and/or covered, the plug was out of the cylinder and there's no oil in the autolube tank.

The blue is rattle can, but the frame is OG as they come and in amazing condition. Zero rust anywhere.

PO said it ran when he got it, but he's not a mechanic and has given up on it, so wants to get the space back in his garage. He had a couple of pretty nice motorcycles in an air conditioned garage, so I'm optimistic about the cylinder.

So how was your day?
You scored big time! I don't care if the cylinder is crap or not. You had to get it. I'm jelly!

So the cylinder was actually not in bad shape. Good compression, massive head leaks.

The CDI was wired up wrong (it looks like a new a Ducati...how do get WRGG wrong???) with what looks like a new stator, but a somewhat crap flywheel. Weak spark, but it had one after I sorted the wiring.

It got it to start and run briefly on starter fluid, then tried a little gas (premix), forgetting that the carb was probably going to leak like a sieve...which it did, completely flooding it.

The sight glass is cracked pretty badly and no oil in the tank. My guess is that PO's were running it premix because the piston crown looked healthy.

Next workshop session will be sorting out the carb, along with a better flywheel. I'll bet that lets me take it around the block. I suspect it'll need a full rebuild pretty much straight away, though.
Not bad, considering. And it fired.

I guess it's WRG, just backwards.

Yeah, I could see re-doing the paint on the blue pieces. The frame is in good shape and doesn't need paint.

I'd assume it is. I'll be doing some VooDoo unpainting soon enough to at least find out. Either way, I'll probably strip off all the blue so I can either touch up or reshoot factory white.

Meanwhile...

I woke up early and just had to know, so I replaced the float needle and cleaned the needle seat. Determined the old flywheel had about the same magnetism as a cheap refrigrator magnet, so I put a Known Good flywheel on it and gave it a kick...

Didn't even clean the jets, but I'll bet the main is clogged up when I do.

Downside is that the fly side threads on the crank are pretty much trashed, so it's going to be new crank time, but I really can't complain. Honestly, I'm surprised the flywheel didn't just shear the woodruff key like a penny in a scissors infomercial.

Yeah. The crank is thrashed. I'm a little surprised the flywheel was on far enough to trigger the ignition sensor and not just spin off into space.
108 wrote:

Exactly. It needs a little bit of new parts and a lot of know-how.

It'll be interesting to see what things look like in the gearbox, but the shifting feels pretty good, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll just need a cruciform and maybe a new gear stack spacer.

I have other projects in line ahead of it (the green Stella, maybe the Lammy) now that I have a basic handle on where it's at.

On Monday I had 4 x-rays taken of my lower back. Yesterday, back in the same office getting a MRI. The last surgery of two that were done in the same area was 10 years ago, so I guess it's time again. Upside is my wife's semi-annual cancer check went great. And Chandler picked up another project. As if the Lambretta isn't enough. Laughing emoticon

I've had the green Stella since it was new. I bought it from the OG Scooterworks in Chicago when I lived nearby.

As to how many I have? Too many.

(I was trying to figure out how to get down to four, and instead I've gone up to seven. Doh.)

Last summer the clutch in my smallstate exploded on a ride up to Voodoo's house. I finally got replacement parts installed and took her for a test drive.

new 2nd gear
new Christmas tree
DRT clutch plates

I'm not super enthusiastic about the DRT installation instructions for modifying the clutch plate tabs, but I definitely had to do this to get them to seat inside the basket.
Boom. Clutch shrapnel took out x-mas tree and 2nd gear. Luckily it happened at low speed. Note the gear tooth hiding out in the "attic".

It was my daily rider for ten years in downtown Chicago, rain, shine, snow, ice...it's seen 'em all. It hasn't had a motor in it for a couple years and has instead been serving as jacket & helmet rack.

Once I got the Sprint going, it became my "winter bike" for laying down on the snow and ice while commuting, then got pretty much mothballed after I finished up the GL.

Now, it's finally going to get some love and a new motor, which I have, but which is still Some Assembly Required. Then it'll be able to move on to a new home.

Ouch!! Lucky nothing got stuck and cracked the cases.

I notice the logo at the bottom of the instructions say REengineering. Now I see why! That bending is just crazy. When I put my DRT basket in, I only had to straighten the fingers and cut them to length so they would all be the same. Now that's re-engineering.

A lifetime ago, I picked up a 1976 Harley Super Glide from a friend that was going thru a divorce. It was a year old, with only about 5,000 miles. It was my only source of transportation for several years, so I got to know it well. However, within the first six months of ownership a lot of little stupid things went wonky. It seems I was always chasing something down to fix. When I was at the dealership on my biweekly parts run, I was sniveling to a couple riders that were hanging around for the same reason. The owner of the shop overheard my tale of woe and commented: "Harley Davidson builds the bike, the owner does the final engineering". Some things don't change. Facepalm emoticon

Beating on the Beo. It made it to 9100', but it hated the altitude. Was gonna leave it alone, but it's going to get some tuning.

Disappointed I missed the grand finale on CaliJ's "Overprescribed on Ritalin While Scooter Shopping" thread. Thinking of the PilotWings 64 sound for the human cannonball game as mods bailed out of that one.

Can't help snickering about the idea that some lazy techbros are gonna scrape that to train their AIs.

Greasy has A Beautiful Mind.

Had some dope quesabirria for lunch while hanging out with my fellow scooter dorks. Will patronize that establishment again.

Used my inspection cam to win a bet. HPE CVT was fine. Should've specified the quality of ham, though.

I gotta say it was a good day.
