had some work done on a set of P2 engine cases that needed some love. These were converted to reed valve long ago, with material added to clutch side of intake to be able to open up it larger.
One of the carb stud holes was stripped and wallowed out by a previous poor repair, and the cylinder mating surface was marred and scared. I had these areas tig welded, as well as extra material added for port matching. I also had the area around the primary shaft reinforced and patch work done to the bottom of case where it had been worn away from road scraping. Al Harpman of Hot Rod scooters then did the machine work to deck the intake, install a steel insert for the carb stud and resurface the cylinder area. Hot Rod AL is the man! If you need anything like this, crank building, or other custom work; do yourself a favor and hit him up! ![]() carb stud hole welded, ready for machining.

He know his stuff and does top quality work so !'m really glad he's back

A buddy's Kymco AK550 is having low-speed performance issues. Dug into it a bit and I suspect the clutch.
Someone had been in it before because the clutch plate separator springs were installed randomly. The steels and the corks looked good to me. Rebuilt it, installing the separator plate springs like a T MAX and it was still misbehaving. I think I need to order new pressure plate springs, since I was able to compress it to install the snap ring with little effort. ![]() The patient.
![]() Much easier to remove than one on a T MAX. Don't need to futz with the stator and water pump!

Yesterday I made pastrami for my pal that turned 90. He really dug it and the pastrami turned out bitchin.
Greasy, you listening?! Let's do it after it starts getting cooler. Jewish rye, Tillamook Swiss cheese, Beaver Brand deli mustard and dill pickle. Boom! 🤤 Of course quality beer, too.

Today I... got Speedy back from Rolf's place... it's been there for months, I haven't ridden for far too long (due to broken wrist & thumb) .
He was amazing & has added a MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP, retuned, rejetted, fixed leak from rear wheel seal, fixed hole in seat (very nicely). Now all i need to do to get it ready for The Mille & ridin there with Il Ginchi is... rewire it, change to fast-throttle (so wrist & thumb survive the 3200+km ride to the start of The Mille), add better headlights, USB Charging, Battery (mainly for the horn), get myself fit, remember to do MAPS before The Mille starts....etc... ![]() Not enough time yet to get it into the shed!

Measure the depth of the hole and then get a stud long enough to bottom out. You'll get maximum threads and also that will help lock it in place.
And if that's not enough, you may need to fix it with a Time-Sert or other thread repair insert. |
