Since it's winter I decided to remove the screws I had holding the floor rails in and use rivets instead. Only took about an hour total. Added bonus I got to re install the center stand relocation bracket and now it's actually straight! I had noticed the screws weren't letting it sit flat against the bottom of the floor so needed to remove them.
First remove the rubber and screws.
Back in place. Easy peasy. Except for my shoulders being very very sore! Don't worry got that outer rail sorted after the pic was taken.

I haven't decided whether to use it just as a gas can, or plumb it in.( I do use a fuel pump). Either way I need more than a 50 mile to the tank range.

I'm hoping for 2.5- 3 gallons. That should just about double my range and add some much needed weight on the front end.

Finally got this back. Only took about two years.
Ported, thanks to Short Block Charlie's.
Modified Kibblewhite valves. I think I may need to have the exhaust remade.

Well... its back together, but I still need to finish adjusting in the cables.
I had to replace the inner selector cable and it turned into a battle royale. When I finally got the new inner through the outer and into the box, the temps had dropped to the 30's and my old arthritic hands said "no mo". The outer was kinda fused by crust and debris to the cable guide and the old cable had frayed and some was snapped off in said cable guide. I had to undo the guide/adjuster to clear the path for a new inner. (hence why I took off the KS lever). Then, one of the outers slipped from it's top-hat in the headset and I had to rescue that shit show. I was so annoyed when I came inside afterwards my wife looked over at me and said. "Oh. Sorry... that didn't go well huh?" Lolz

I put a yoga mat on the floor that I nicked from my lovely wife when doing "5 minute projects" like that. It has a twofold purpose: 1) it makes the concrete floor a little more comfortable and 2) if the project is going badly, I can lay on my back for as few minutes, reconnect with the universe as to realign my aura.

Well gents, you've left me with a quandary. My options seem to be:
1) Seal it with Perspex and install blacklights. Charge for viewings to offset the cost of a replacement Dio tank (~$220). Maybe donate it to science. 2) Channel my inner Opperheimer, quote Krishna, " I am become death, destroyer of worlds." Drop in a funnel and pour in a gallon of acetone. |

VNB work... (Hours long odyssey becomes a days long odyssey.)
Of course my cable adventure did not end where I thought it would. Shifter was still crazy sticky after my selector cable work, so I pulled the shift tube out. It had a weird grey film that was very tacky kinda smeared all over the tube. Best I can figure is that some of the clutch outer had sheared when shifting and worked into the tube? I really don't know what else it could be? *scratches head* Cleaned up with steal wool and felt like a winner. (This feeling was short lived.) I'll spare you all the ensuing horror story and it's grisly details. Short version: I had to pull the tank and run a clutch cable with no cable guide. Hours of fun I tell ya. Although... when I finally saw the cable at the front of the tunnel (iphone pic) I actually let out a yip of joy. Of course, standing back a few moments later assessing the scoot with the fuel system out and headset in pieces the yip seemed like a small consolation.
