I replaced the upper and lower bearing races on the GL yesterday, along with new bearings. That was pretty easy.
I also tried to fix a bent fork stop and that was not-so-easy. Ultimately, that one got the best of me. I guess I'll just deal with having no right turn fork stop. It's been that way for a while, I just hoped I'd get it fixed while I had the fork out. Win some. Lose some.

Tried to fill gear oil in a 125 Allstate motor that hasn't run for forever. Fill bolt was just spinning. I put a pliers on it and exerted up pressure but no luck. I resorted to gently prying upwards with a screwdriver while turning with a wrench or pliers and eventually extracted the filler bolt.
I ordered a 10m x 125 tap and corresponding drill bit and also a 10m oil drain bolt.

Another scooter followed me home! Again?! I'm not sure how this keeps happening?!?…
Nice lil Allstate, made it home to the shop. I picked this up in Southern Oregon, while on my way home from a business trip. Timing was perfect for this being listed, and me being able to pickup enroute home. Mostly complete. Solid rust/rot free, other than obvious surface rust. Engine turns free, but top end has been removed and the crank-rod is bent. Piston-Ported 125, so its not exactly a hot rodder. lol Not sure the plan here, but I have thoughts
Look behind you, theres another one of those weird scootahs in the car!

I'm thinking about the same old piston ported motors, mostly intact, that I got cheap and you NEED to do justice properly refurbishing this important historical Vespa 'AllState' icon. Did I mention cheap? |

Regarding the '58 plate. if there is any paperwork that has that plate number and the VIN (title or registration or even a parking ticket) it should be saved as it can be used to reassign the plate to the bike if it ever comes back to California. Without that paperwork it can still be used through the "year of manufacturer plate" option, but there is an extra fee for that.

Allstate Crew assemble!!
I'm very happy with this find! Mild resto mod would be by ideal plan. I have a motor I could swap in, instead of the Piston-Port 125. I also have a damper link & fork I can swap over. Purists look away! The plate is actually a 56, with the last tag being 58. Interesting, as this should be a 1958 model…. early import? Plate swapped? IDK. No paperwork unfortunatley, but I can work with that. Amerivespa would be rad for everyone to meet up! I've already booked a room at the host hotel

I could have this wrong but I think California use to issue new plates each year/ every few years.
I would have expected a 58 would be a 56 plate with a 58 sticker, but it looks like there is another sticker under it. |

I grow weary of cleaning fuel systems after people leave their scoot sitting for a few years and decide they want to ride again.
And WTF are they putting in fuel these days?!?
Rotten cap. Part of it crumbled into the tank!
What came out of the tank. This fuel probably dates to November '22.
A closer look. Maybe sediment from the filling station tanks?
Tank has been cleaned. Waiting on a new gas cap and fuel sender.

I came across this photo today while sorting through scrapbook stuff.
Early 90's. A friend bought it from a friend's dad. We picked it up in my bus. I got it started by rolling down a hill in 2nd until it started. Bone stock and well maintained. My friend never learned to drive standard and couldn't get the hang of shifting. He asked me if shifting gears was really necessary (it was a 3 speed). It really wasn't for him and he ended up selling it. I wasn't interested in it at the time because I turned my nose up at small frames. I don't even know what model it was.

Oh... and protip - buy like half a dozen oil sight glasses to have on hand when you install the tank. You'll break at least 2 (possibly 5 or 6) trying to get the tank home. It's a feature.

I'm convinced that's how they must have done it from the factory. |

NSR.... Can anyone scan a small object and send me a model file to print? It's the short plastic cap that comes on some dairy product cartons. Most versions of this spout and cap are 1/2" high and the one I need is 3/8". I can give you the name of a couple of products that use this cap. I'll gladly cover the cost of a carton and your time. PM me for more detail. Thanks.

Moving a couple of modern fossils from my buddy's old house to the shop. '84 Riva 80 and an '89 "Riva" Zuma. Yes, the early Zumas were marked as Rivas.
Both are dried-up turds, but I'll give 'em a fair shake when time permits.
A "load" in more ways than one.
