Aside from some garage cleanup, my projects haven't seen any action since the weeks prior to Super Sunday. Now that things are less hectic on the work and home fronts, I want to pick back up on these things. It doesn't help that Summer is now truly here and the days are marked with
Extreme Heat Warnings. I'll need to start getting my arse out of bed around 5A in order to have any time to work outdoors.
When I was up in Phoenix over the weekend, I dropped my '85 NQ50 Spree cases off with the friend who owns the GTS in the prior post. Now that we don't have an contact center there, I can't drop stuff off for vapor blasting while up there for work.
At any rate, the shop called today; cases have been vapor blasted. I paid over the phone and my buddy already picked them up! Not ready to work on the Spree yet, but at least now the engine will finally be ready to reassemble.
Next up to the blaster is the Minarelli P4E70. The inner cases looked good for their age, but the outer covers were a bit manky, as was the cylinder and head.
I didn't drop those off due to needing some prep work. The bores for the cylinder studs were really crusty and I doubted vapor blasting would fully clean them. Tonight, I hit them with a 7mm hone and de-scuzzed them. Now I'll box them up for my next trip up. All parts get vapor blasted and the outer covers get polished. I have a NOS Indian plaque for the clutch cover and a OG Moto Minarelli decal for the stator/sprocket cover. Then I can reassemble the engine and wrap it up until the chassis is finished
I need to make another trip up there anyway. I don't need any more two wheelers, but another buddy tipped me off on something too interesting to pass on...
