For now, I'm just waiting for the MRI and trying to figure out my limits so I don't let my muscles atrophy.

The doctor seemed a little surprised that I had zero pushback about surgery, which I thought was interesting. Like... how many people tear their rotator cuff and then just live with it???

I'll be trying to wrench, although probably less than usual, and am continuing to ride since I probably won't get to for a while. Luckily, I've gotten to a point where riding mostly doesn't hurt.

It's gonna suck if I finish up the Riverside just in time to have it sit in the workshop for a couple months, though.
A lot of people actually. My older brother for one went 6 yrs with his torn. You'd be surprised what you can work around lol. I built our kitchen with one half usable arm. Left arm had a shoulder that needed to be replaced along with a torn deltoid, and 2 of the rotator cuffs torn and the right arm just needed a new shoulder. Anything above the head was excruciating and honestly the worst was not being able to cut food. That one hurt the most.

Gonna hold out hope that the MRI doesn't show anything crazy. Hang in there.

Today I played hooky from work. After coffee I went out to the garage to start working on the ET3 again…. Engine seemed to flood, maybe a stuck float bowl as Gas is pouring out the bottom of the bike? :-/ This fucking thing.

And then as if on cue …. I got called into work for an IT issue. So much for a mellow vacation day. Boo.

Really sorry about your shoulder. Hoping for the best. I know you will find a way to wrench when you can't ride. The people I know who have had shoulder surgery have had good outcomes. Since you're used to wrenching and swinging a hammer, I bet you will be back quickly post op.

Well this don't seem right! You can get ALL your scoots running near perfect(eventually) and now some random body part that you can't just order a new one from SIP lets you down! You know that we are all pulling for your speedy recovery and you can still type and help us keep our own scoots running properly. I wish I lived next door so I could be your hands for the duration, just tell me what to do - haha, I Could learn SO MUCH.

Today I... realised that when you have 2 crap exhausts there is only a few options... I chose the "make a 3rd crap exhaust" option.

Why not have a LEFT & RIGHT outlet exhaust?

hey mobsters!

the reports of me demise have been greatly exaggerated.

in a twist of ironic fate, Johnny Mule swung by chez greasy and dropped off parts and took nothing upon leaving. the gall of that man!

anyway, it was good to catch up with him about scooters and life and generally bullshit in the heat while drinking some bubbly stuff.

there was a mild threat of him returning to claim back the orange primmy at a currently unknown point in the future. so it looks like I'd better start riding that thing again or he'll make good on the promise.

all pictures and evidence of his visit have been destroyed and/or filed to the appropriate authorities.

Big software update for our main POS and hospital ops completed overnight.

*Big, extended sigh*

That means finally more time for scooters and a well deserved cocktail when I get home.

I have also recently gotten the jones for a honda super cub after meeting one in person at the Mayhem rally. Could destroy my vnitage street cred, but then... I give zero F's about vintage street cred.

(I do care about my marriage though... and not sure I can make an argument that will land.)

VMs have made life a lot easier for admins in that respect. Snapshot the system before updating and if the update explodes, revert the your snapshot.

Solarwinds used to explode on the regular during updates. I had a pre-upgrade checklist developed from Explosions of Solarwinds Past that would get checked prior to pushing the Go button.

If it exploded again, grab the logs, spend a few minutes on diagnostics if the maintenance window allows and revert to the snapshot. Then schedule another maintenance window and research why it exploded this time.

Congratulations on grinding through the upgrade Birbs!

Cubs have been around forever. They're timeless. Besides, the old ones are three-speed. Though, if you want to light money afire, SP Takegawa can help.

I had one awhile back when kick starting was becoming too painful. It only held one gallon of gas, but at 135+ mpg, it went far, for just bopping around town. 125cc, FI and 4 speed - it was a fun little scoot and capable of running in the 45 mph zones.

Lovely.

Would it be suitable for 55mph traffic? I see top speeds noted at 65mph, but suspect that is downhill… and with a tailwind.

I got 62 -63 out of it on level ground using all of the 9.7 HP. That was wringing its neck, WOT. Going up a hill and it would drop down to 55. It held it's own just fine if you stuck to 45 mph zones, so not much different than a stock Vespa 2-port 150.

Side Quest!

A local Scooter shop referred a guy to me about a year ago that had a P 200 that was popping out of gear. He came by we did cable adjustments, and it didn't help. We tried the gasket spacer trick on the selector box and didn't help either. I suggested a full rebuild.
Fast forward to now and the P200 motor has ended up on my workbench. The cool thing about the motor is that the only rebuild that was ever done was by Randall Garner himself in the late 90s. Stator is at Gicks for a rewire. Splitsville here today.
Dropped off Monday.

They're just trying to learn and help out! If they were actually useful, they wouldn't be interns. Razz emoticon

I think there's a strong correlation between scooterists and technical IT workers: fun (in our own way); generally welcoming community; do as much of our own work as we can; realize that most people think we're weird.

The project managers, on the other hand, are mostly Cosplay Harley Tough Guys: Want attention and to be respected, or at least feared; annoying; all about chrome and flash; pay others to work on their stuff, then talk about it like they did it themselves.

I should get one of those since I seem to have quit bothering (or run out of room) to set up my inside paint booth. CM2 also has one and speaks well of it.
