They are neat and weird in a way. Even tho the ignition is points, it can be converted to Ducati electronic by swapping a coil and pickup; and the flywheel will work for either setup as it has the magnetic break sensor built in.

Placed a post about another T5 bitsa I picked up and started to inspect. This one will be red and far from a resto.. it will be put together using whatever fun and spare bits I can find in the "Parts Grayeyard"

Remember the fire triangle. Fuel, oxygen, heat. You seem to have all the elements accounted for... potentially. 😁

I would definitely replace the fuel tank! Repairing the holes left behind after removing the 12V power supply outlet, would be sketchy if any fuel vapors are still present. You can make it go boom just trying to patch it!

The sender has 12v runnng through it to a resistor element also, combustion relies on a particular percentage of O2 to fuel ratio and neither of them will reach that critical mass ratio.

Oh and it appears to be located in the old oil tank tube not the actual fuel tank...


Having said all that, long range tank is replacing it... but I just had to share this novel approach to death

I've welded pinholes in a gas tank before. It's loud when it goes pop, but not actually dangerous, IMO.

just don't have your face directly over the filler hole and it'll be fine.

The harder part (for me, at least) was successfully welding such thin sheet steel.

You just made my day😁! Never the funnest job. After running soapy water through it, I set up a continuous purge of argon in the tank while welding. Slightly safer than going balls to the wall. It also works to leave the water in the tank while welding if you can position it so the water isn't touching your weld area.

I was in Mexico once and was having lunch next to an auto repair shop. I watched a guy braze a crack in a fuel tank without even draining the fuel! He had the car on a lift and had the gas filler hose removed. He took a rag and stuffed in the gas filler nozzle of the tank and lit the rag on fire! the burning rag consumed the oxygen inside the tank as he brazed up the crack. I watched from a safe distance!

Running car exhaust into a fuel tank will make it safe to weld

Safety's in there somewhere. I think.

This is what I do. No drama ever with this method.

That's what I did. Although the thing I read was that it should be a diesel exhaust. No boom.

Definitely does not have to be diesel exhaust. Regular gasoline exhaust will do the job and it only takes a few minutes.

Another inch. Imagine the sounds of a sloth running.

Now to work out the rear shocks and ensure the wheel set will fit, work out axle sizes, what brake rotors will fit the wheel set and make up a caliper mount plate for the rear wheel.

On the shocks, I'm torn between using some stock-looking replacements, or getting some crazy nitrogen-sprung shocks. I kind of want this thing to pass a first glance without a casual observer noticing that it's not stock.

Not going to fool the anoraks, but I doubt there are many Clymer-era Indian experts floating around to notice!

Armed with this knowledge i should be able to easily fix an electric start motor now if I need to on one of the other toys 🧸 😀

Today I put my 1980 P125X away for the winter. We have ice and snow on the ground now so no more riding till spring. She's back on the motorcycle lift table strapped in and safely tucked away in the basement spare room.

So many Vizsla's! Gorgeous pups. I had Weimaraners for most of my life. Both are great dogs.

Currently have a beagle named Calvin. Had a coonhound named Bernie but she passed in August. And we are a vacation home for our friends dog when she goes away. His name is Gimli and he's a German Shepherd/Chiuahua mix….

Working on the Rally while waiting for the powder coated parts. New tubeless rims, Michelin City Grip Saver tyres, raised 10mm the main stand, Clauss Studios reinforced top mount, YSS-E rear shock and MRP luggage hooks for the tunnel...

My boy Henry turns 5 on Jan 28th.

Got finished on the new extension cables yesterday.

Only issue I have is the speedo cable. The connector at the speedo has different color wiring than the Koso gps connection. So that may eventually take some trial and error to get right.
