It didn't post the vid of the input shaft from the Xmas tree flopping around in the hole in the case it fits into. I guess early Rally had the smaller sprint size shaft and not the later P. Now I have to find a bearing to fit my tree and the later shaft. It's an odd one. 40x15x12 it should be a 6203-15sr then I can use my gear box but have the P shaft fit the cases. Besides the ground away pad everything else looked fine. I have a reed valve on the way and a PHBH I can fit. What a pain in the ass

Ever since I replaced the front fork on my VBB with a Bajaj re-pop, it's had something a little bit out-of-round. So I opened it up and checked the axle and confirmed that it was warped, bent, or just didn't have the hub properly centered.
So I replaced it with the front axle from my original fork, and problem solved! rolls smooth as can be now. As an added bonus, I found yet another use for my crank puller as a front axle puller. Beats the crap out of hammering it in with a punch, plus the right-hand bearing didn't pop loose. ![]() After that, I tore down the SoCal motor. I knew the clutch-side seal was leaking, but when I drained the oil, it was pretty much the consistency of gasoline. The clutch side seal was so poorly installed that it had scratched the side of the crank. Also, someone also did bad things to the clutch-side bearing housing and cracked off one of the retaining lips on the clutch side. I'm a little worried about it, but I think I'm going to soldier on for now since this is the experimental 10" to 8" conversion test bed. And when I test started the Stella to see if it was going to behave, it fired up first kick. Dunno what's going on with it right now. Maybe it just needs me to actually pay the carb tuning some attention. |

Leaned out the idle & main jet on the Stella by one jet each. That added 750 RPM's to the top end, so it's now about where I was expecting (7,500 RPM's) but now when it hits the redline, it cuts off rather than just not revving out any more.
Thoughts, anyone? |

Swapped the CDI on the Stella today. All high RPM performance issues seem to be resolved. Max RPM's on the tach after a quick test ride was 8,200. Smooth as could be.
Now I just need to sort out why the front disc brake has developed a serious shudder on braking from time to time. I think it's related to the front wheel bouncing down after accidental wheelies, but don't really know what's going on other than the symptom. |

Got told by a scooter rental shop owner in Estes Park, CO carbs can't run at elevation and timing chains need frequent replacement. I told him about rubber drive belts and altitude adjustment for carbs. Dude looked at me like I was speaking Greek. Fucking idiot.

Today I'm flying out to California, but over the weekend, I ported out the Malossi kit I took off the Stella and matched it to the SoCal LML motor, then put it along with a 24/24 and my ported out LML reed block on it.
I'm putting an 8" conversion kit on it and it's going into the VBB, which will also get me to 12v on that bike, which I'm also happy about. I put a Kytronic on it, curve 7, and the P200 stator along with the lightened Pinasco Flywheel that I couldn't use on the Stella. I used a 22t clutch to help a little bit with the lowered gearing, but it's still probably going to be another wheelie monster. I did BIG ports on it as well as opening up the piston similar to what Blake7even did on his Sprint Sleeper. Port timings are good, but squish is a little high right now at 1.8mm. I have another Malossi head that I shaved a millimeter off of, so I may swap to that when I pull the top end to seal up everything before final install. I didn't use it initially because it will require me to tighten the cylinder studs down a few millimeters, but I might to get a lower squish. By the time I put gasket seal on the base, it'll probably wind up at a touch over 1mm for final squish, which should be good. I managed to make every amateur hour mistake in the book on the rebuild, it felt like. First, I put the kick start gear in backwards and didn't check it until after I'd bolted up the cases, so I got to crack it open again. Then, I realized I'd put the clutch side seal in backwards--it was a different seal than I'm used to and I just spaced on which side was which. On the bright side, when I finally fired it up, it ran like a beast. I'm pretty excited to do the final once-over and get it into the bike, hopefully this weekend. |

Best of luck to you Ebeth on the job quest. The scoot looks very tidy. If you need any references, I think you could get some good ones from some of us here testifying to your cleverness, hard work and kindness. Are you looking to be a teacher? I'd love to be one of your students...
![]() So today I'm reassembling my P motor after replacing the kickstart gear to accommodate the folding lever I'm making. I came up w/ a simple idea I'll try: instead of the usual double nutting to remove/install cylinder studs, I'm gonna try carefully grinding 2 small flats at the top end 6mm across so I can spin them in & out w/ an end wrench. |

One thing I do when I double nutting is put a washer between the two nuts. It lets me use a socket rather than a wrench.to install them and keeps the wrench from sliding up onto the upper nut when removing. |
