I got home today on the Stella, went to turn off the fuel tap and the tap lever was disconnected from the tap.
Time to pull the gas tank. Damnit. |

Several weeks ago I did all the post melee maintenance on the rally, new tire, changed the clutch cable that was starting to stretch...
Today, it dies at stops, has to be bump started... Thought it was a fouled plug but no. Float was full of gas! seen that on old brass floats, heard of it happening but never actually seen it. I will carry a spare going forward. |

Today I put new brake shoes on the 90 Riva 200. I also picked up my rims with new Dunlop 4 X 10 tires. They said that since it was a 200 cc scooter they had to be balanced...=...+...$
So I pick them up and they couldn't balance the front because the axle is too small. I flip them over, look for the yellow dots and then said "Dude...you're charging me for balancing two whe you only balanced one. And they aren't mounted right...the yellow dot goes at the valve stem" They had no clue what I was talking about. I hate mounting tires by hand but it looks like I need to do it my self. Dyna beads instead of balancing. All in all a good day! Tomorrow repack the bearings, new front brake cable and I will be set! |

today i just got home from a week vacation in london and a short visit to paris for a day. i saw 3 vintage scooters the entire time i was there. 2 p series in paris and 1 lambretta that was parked in front of modfathers at the camden stables.
needless to say i saw about fifty thousand moderns of many different makes, even the police were riding mp3's. shit was weird. |

I looked around for somewhere with reasonable shipping to get your kind (the FA Italia "Rush" - no longer made by the looks so not stocked by SIP etc) but they always worked out 1.5 - 2 times the price of the Pinasco. I piggybacked it on an order from SCK. Hoping it doesn't actually need balancing to be honest. |

I got the FA Italias from Mercato. I don't usually balance 10 inch tires but that Riva 200 can make it over 70 mph pretty easily. All in all I would think the Pinasco and FAs are probably pretty close to each other.
Now I did just read in Scootering that Pinasco is coming out with tubeless splits for Lambrettas...no release date yet but I'm gonna get me some of them! |

Friday night I got off work early, went for a ride, grabbed some dinner at my friend's bar, and went to pre-run some of the roads I had planned to lead a group ride through the following day.
On my way hom I turned down one of the side roads I needed to check after the storms and got half a mile into the dark when I snapped a throttle cable on my P. I managed to get the remaining length pulled between the frame and cowl so I could use the cable as a pull string on the carb. The one handed ride home was, "interesting". The next day I tore the whole damn thing apart at 6 am in order to meeting up with the group ride folks at 9am. Thinking I'd be done with it quickly, I grab my replacement cable and some heat shrink tubing and a roll of tape to fish it through the frame. Turned out I needed to drain and pull the tank as the shop who cabled it before I bought it last year managed to get the throttle cable set entangled with the wiring for the turn signals. Morons. I got it all buttoned up and the ride was a success! |

crashing motorcycle rallies
There aren't any scooter rallies where I live (there's hardly any scooters) so when a local rally welcomes all rides, and free Dickey's BBQ to anyone who shows up on a ride, we thought, why not?
Our scooters got some strange looks from the people wearing skulls on their clothes, but mostly people were impressed by our rides (or maybe just thought we were brave to show up on them). We sat back on the grass and just people-watched as they drifted past the scooters and stopped, gawking and commenting. There weren't any rally rides, but there was a crazy-scary motorcycle stunt show and a below-average 80's cover band. What more could you ask for on a lazy summer evening? Look at how tiny the super's front wheel is!! lol

Used to work at Repco/Napa... Brought every available suspension/steering performance part they had, fully soundproofed it, fitted a competition stereo... Had a ball in it. Due to only needing a Roadworthy/pink slip/MOT it NEVER went to a mechanic, I did all t work myself. |

Yesterday with some spare time, I was able to help the fellow Vespa enthusiasts from West to East coast to reborn their scooter's original locks. Will ship those 8 back out today.
Today, coincidentally, the USPS guy just delivered 4 more locks from the great John McDaniel in Kentucky and cool Luca in Wyoming while my buddy got a hold of 5 NOS Blank Neiman keys. Fun time to rekey and make new keys for these locks. lol locksmith in the making.
