Something different for today, but of course it's a 2 stroke. My father sold our old Yamaha 40HP long shaft outboard motor. We had lend it to a friend for a couple of years and it's been sitting under a tarp for over 6 years now, since he brought it back. Sold it for cheap (400€) just to get it of our hands. Huge ass barrel, stand, water, fresh gasoline, battery and it fired up. Carbs will definitely need to be cleaned but since it was sold as is, the new owner will need to do a bit of TLC (he's a mechanic). Will be shipping it to a Greek island. Awesome two cylinder, sounds like a freaking RD350...

I have the original 1962 four cylinder 2t outboard that came on my boat. I am keeping it with the intention on eventually rebuilding it even though the engineering is totally mechanic-hostile and parts are nearly unobtanium.

The longest half-hour ride to the pub ever.
Let a buddy use my GT. Heard it gurgling at a stop light. Gas leaking out like a severed jugular. Somehow, the float valve removed itself from the float. A stinky but easy fix. Start to roll after that little wrench session. Then I see the rear tire is low. Figuring it's just the outside temp, aired it up. Start to roll again, now going flat. Stop, change the tire. Finally, some lunch. ![]()

Sadly I don't have the skills of Chandlerman. 😁 And my results are much less skill and much more persistence when it comes to bodywork. Everything I know, I've learned from Youtube and the mistakes I've made trying. Just don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and be patient--the worst thing that will happen if you make a mistake is that you have to sand it down and do it over. Much lower recovery cost than blowing up motors. And if you're already primed, you just need to pick a color, get or borrow the equipment, and go for it. The hardest part to justify is buying the equipment if you don't already have it or don't expect to make a habit of painting stuff. But the materials are fairly cheap: you can get a quart of single-stage paint and hardener (enough for a scooter) for ~$50. If you weren't already primed, DTM Epoxy+hardener is another $50, High-build Primer is $30, Body filler is another $20-30, but that's enough filler that it'll go bad or the sun will burn out before you run out of it working on scooters. Regardless, I dig the gray. Maybe I'll go with Primer Gray when I re-do my Stella or whatever project kicks off after the VBB. |

Ma Nature is trying to take my ham!
A freeze is coming tomorrow night which means my garage and work space will become home to the wife's plants for 2 or 3 days and be basically inaccessible for scooter work. Floated the idea of moving cowls, glovebox and fender to the guest bedroom so I can sort the trim out during the freeze. Suggestion was received coldly. :-/ May try again this evening with a homemade dinner and vino to help my case. "I am on a timeline here darling!"

I don't do cold well, so anything below 50 isn't fun. But I do OK with a space heater out there for an hour or two or three. We are expected to be in the mid to upper 20s so too cold to work for sure... even if my garage wasn't filled with her plants
