Still cold and chilly here, and some rain most days but I went on my first decent ride except for just putt putting up to get the mail. https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic170688?highlight=voodoo+smallframe I may have glossed over how far it came from, what shipping cost, or what the The Voodoo Smallie engine bits will be worth. Voodoo smally is officially in the work queue. Happy wife, happy life. Got to play the long game sometimes.

Worked from home today, so I used my lunchtime to remove the gaskets off some crankcases and cleaned up the mating surfaces in preparation for rebuild.

Replaced both switch sets and a starter relay on a Vino 125. Seems to e-start more consistently now.

Nice! Quote: In this case it looks like they were just using a straight setting on the machine without an adjustable amp control at all and a better technique there is to instead of finishing the weld by coming straight out with the tig to walk it off to the side on weld metal not parent metal while increasing the distance of the arc gradually, this technique eliminates the fish eyes when done correctly. It could also be remedied by removing material at the fish eyes carefully and smoothing and blending back with the rest of the weld. Think dremel tool with a fine grinding bit followed by a polishing bit. Lastly in this application I would highly recommend a "temper bead" technique. Basically what a temper bead technique means is that the last weld you make should be in the middle of the weld area, the last bead applied should NOT touch the area of the parent metal. Would be well worth a few show and tell pics and that same description on the welding thread. Greasy: what have you gotten yourself into? |
