Saw this Sunday, Midnight in Seattle. Are Helixs rare? This one has been ridden hard it seems.

Yes and no. Since they haven't been made in a while there aren't that many around but they are like the energizer bunny. They keep going and going if you do the maintenance. I had Helix 250 back in '87. While it was the ugliest scooter on the planet that bike was fast and i NEVER had a problem with it. Sold it when i went to Saudi. I had more storage room than i needed. The owner of the Honda MC shop has 3 of them. I see them over here. Considering how old most of them are it's amazing i see any.

If you search on http://allofcraigslist.com/ there about 10 to 15 for sale at any given time in America. The Helix and Yamaha Morpheus look comfy. Sometimes I'm envious.

Honestly, the Helix has always been on my short list. Seems when I'm looking for on cant find'em. I hear they are comfy!

My CF Moto is a clone of the Helix and it is fairly comfortable. With my kidney belt on I do the trip to Danbury Connecticut in one sitting. 150 miles nonstop with no complaints. The Helix has more power and certainly more durability but the Helix shape is made for long rides.

I picked up a '87 for $1350 on CL about 2 years ago. Easily the best scooter I've ever had. Made my Fly feel like a unicycle.

Their VERY comfy. If it falls over you need 2 Samoans or Hawaiians to get it upright tho.

My neighbor put his '84 for sale a few weeks ago. He's been driving this for years. Swears they're the most durable scooter made. Nice but ugly IMO.

I've got one of those now, and just finished rebuilding the outside of it. Hard to get used to the massive wheelbase, as well as how utterly ridiculous the thing looks, but the ride is totally worth it. Mine is 16 years old, but the engine needed nothing when I bought it last year.

They were made from 1986 through 2007. You sure his is an 84 Helix? I didn't think they were made or at least not brought to the US prior to 1986. http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Honda/Helix/Helix.html |

I loved mine!
Honestly the easiest scooter I have ever ridden, very intuitive and confidence inspiring. Wish Honda would make another low slung, long wheel-based scooter with different styling.

They weren't brought over here until 86 or 87 so i doubt it's a '84. I never did a thing to my Helix except ride it. Sold it (left for my second stint in Saudi) back to the dealer before i had to do anything to it. Ugliest thing around but rode like a dream. Comfy too. WITCH glad to see you back on and wow you fixed that Helix up very good. BOB that Helix might almost make me move to Florida.

The same story - there's one frequently visiting a local bike/scoot meeting. It's from 80's, one owner, used hard. Lots of scratches in plastics, but runs well with the original engine and minimal maintenance.
There's often also a newer Burgman (quite rare around here, as any other big scoots) - side by side they have a lot of similarities, although that's not the first thought because of different styling. |
