Watching a videos on YouTube, after a rebuild they mentioned to check for a very slight end play on the crank from end to end.
I rebuilt my '65 VBB 150 using all new bearings and seals. The bearings are pressed on the crank. Then the cases were heated and the crank with bearings were seated into to the cases.
I have not such "very slight end play".
My question is where would ANY play come from? The bearings are tight on the crank and the bearings are tight in the cases. I would expect absolutely no play if that were true.
If any play were there wouldn't it have to cone from within the bearings themselves? Just wondering.

When you put it together it certainly seems like it can't possibly move. But somehow they seem to anyway... especially when you pull in the clutch.

I think the play develops in the main bearing between the races and the ball rollers as is a result of clutching. On a freshly built engine there will seem to be none at all but over time it gradually appears.
