I have a vespa 50, 1966. There is a shaft that has a triangular inside and is going thru all the way in the swing arm with two rubber bushings on each side and a plastic spacers.

Question is that I have to get it out and if I can replace it with something easier to fit than that long shaft?

mother of all jobs, not sure about the 50 engine, so before you do anything can you post pictures of the replacement part so we know what we are dealing with.

Thanks for your answer!
I think it would be nice to change to this system. Separate bushings with small shafts on each instead of a long one. Looks easier to fit/assemble?

2pcs of this modell for swing arm

And one pcs of this one in the mounting for shock absorber.

Why are you trying to remove it in the first place? Do you have the long swingarm bolt that secures the motor to the frame? What material is on the inside of the swingarm bushings that make that triangular shape?

It looks worse than the picture. Other side is not centered.
Im doing a complete engine restoration, everything is apart. It's easier to change them now when having the engine on the bench. It's a pipe made of steel. It's some rust on it. Wonder if that pipe with triangular inside is just on earlier Smallframe models. I was hoping the replacement from the link is compatible. Looks easier to fit two separate parts and get rid of that long pipe.
Yes I have that long bolt that is going trough the pipe and attaches to engine

Hopefully this helps give you some ideas how to draw out the old bushings. If its a bitch and theres room, get a small drill and drill into the rubber in various spots to help alleviate pressure on the inner tube.

Thanks! That is really clever and will help a lot loosen pipe and rubber. They are using a new pipe like the old one. Do you think what I linked should do it instead?

I get your point about replacing them, as the engine is out of the frame. Like others they really don't look that bad & like I said it's a mother of a job. Had a look on SIP and they sell three kinds from £22 to £40 per set & this one

http://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/products/rubber+engine+mounting+bush+_11220500

fitting the tube is relatively easy, its fitting the bushes thats not so easy. You need to sit the bushes in boiling water & use a threaded rod with large washers & nuts to draw the bushes into the engine.

I just bought some BGM ones (they are harder on one side to compensate for the Vespa engine not being centered) and removed the old, installed the new. I used an angle grinder to cut the end off the long tube (they are splayed out to stay in place) then punched the whole thing out with a hammer and a big punch. Installation was opposite and I used some soapy water to get them into place then used the swingarm bolt to hold them in place for a day or so so they would assume the proper position. Here's a link for the small frame ones, good luck:

Did you have same long tube like me? And replaced it with the bgms and no need for the tube anymore.

Appreciate all your help very much!
Thank you!

Yes mine was the stock long tube. Piaggio peened the ends from the factory. Take an angle grinder and cut them off....the BGM bushings are two piece and two tube instead of one and meet in the middle.

As someone else mentioned "mother of all jobs".

I've had good luck using a flat head screwdriver to get in between the outer rubber bushing and the swing arm, pry it away a bit, then squirt some WD40 or other lubricant in there working my around the whole bushing. Then stick the flathead in through the center hole and try and pry/wiggle the whole thing out.

Hey dcunited4life -- how are those BGM mounts holding up? They're pretty cheap as far as I can tell. I'd love to have some sort of goldilocks solution between polyuyrethane racing mounts, and the standard Piaggio ones.

They seem decent. Hard for me to say because they are much better than what was on there but they were the original ones.
