There is definitely going to be a new iPhone in September, and looking at all the leaks and speculation, this is going to be a bit underwhelming.

The iPhone 7 is expected to look basically the same as the 6S, but it will lose the headphone jack and come with lightning connector headphones instead. Other than that there will be the usual small bump in performance and probably a 32gb entry level model instead of 16gb.

Nothing to justify the upgrade from a 6S, and the SE is basically the same electronics in a smaller chassis so unless you really want the reduction in size there's no point changing for that either.

^^^ The "Doc" knocked that one outta the park. I always wait and frog jump the "next" iphone and wait until the second or even third generation comes out over mine. I'm still on an iPhone 4. Yes-everyone laughs at me, but I am odd-I actually use the phone as well, a phone. Nothing much else except to check e-mail infrequently and maybe text once in a Blue Moon. If you have the 6 and you like it-stay put. The only thing the iPhone 7 might bring you is a better price on the 6SE, but wait-you can get one for free? The SE is much smaller and easier to handle, IMHO. Really up to you, but I'd like the smaller size of the SE.

Judy, you talking about a phone for you or your "son" (good on you for taking care of him).

If you get a free phone, wait for the iPhone 7. All iPhones are an incremental improvement. Its really about the iOS software. Not sure what iPhone 7 will bring over iPhone 6 but you only live once. Go for it! Having followed your posts for 7+ years, money is not your major concern. Quality of life is. Go for the new iPhone. It might help but it won't hurt.

Cheers
Miguel

I've had the SE for a couple of months now and I like it just fine.

Before now, I've always had a generation or two behind. I like the size of the SE.

If I were to get myself an iPhone tomorrow (I'm a Mac guy through-and-through, but I'm truly sweet on my Samsung GS5), I'd go with the SE, for one reason and one moderate caveat: the big reason is its size...I like a phone whose controls can be easily manipulated with one hand, and the SE's size makes this ridiculously easy; the caveat is that, unlike the 6s series, available capacity maxes out at 64GB - a wee bit on the small side if you're an itinerant music lover with a large digital (or digitized) music library.

Thanks everyone. I have the 2yr plan with Sprint. So the phone is "free" i just have to commit to a 2yr contract. Been with them for 15yrs so i'm not switching anytime soon. I get some freebies because i've stayed with them. It's cheaper for me to have Kelly and his mom on my plan. Their like family anyway. Kelly 28 now (where does the time go). I think i'll wait. Altho i do like the headphone jack. But my new FUSAR camera has bluetooth so i won't need it when i get it next month (hopefully next month). Probably get the phone around the same time. So it should work out.

This sounds remarkably like me - my iPhone 4S stays in the 'off' or "airplane" mode for days - I rarely use it unless I'm traveling, and then mostly to text friends I'm meeting. I'll probably keep it as long as I can... And No phone could possibly hold my music collection...

Go for the Apple Music subscription! It will change your life (and your free storage space)! You can still tell it to download select stuff into memory so you can listen on the plane or the subway...

For now, Apple Music is a no-go for me, and for two reasons: firstly, it allows Apple to ride roughshod over my iTunes library - if anything in my library doesn't square with what's in their database, they can effectively wipe that track and replace it with a "proper" version...even though it may be a track I ripped from a CD I legitimately purchased. The second reason is access: I'm just experienced enough with the whole "cloud" thing to know that I frequently can't get to what I want when I'd like to. Until that issue is properly addressed, I'll stick to my large-capacity iPod classic, and my Galaxy S5 (with a nice-sized MicroSD card).

And people wonder why vinyl's made a comeback...
