Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever seen water-clear oil except mineral oil maybe. Does it have the viscosity of 90 w gear oil ? Should be the same. I'd smell it. I smell everything, much to the chagrin of my brain cells.

I don't know, I think you should try another bottle or brand. How does it feel between your fingertips? Watery, oily?

Someone else asked the question is it supposed to be clear.

For the price of a new bottle of oil, I wouldn't use that. Your pics would get some chatter from the oil nerds on the BITOG (Bob Is The Oil Guy) site.

I have been using the Shell SAE 30 ND oil for some time and it does appear to look like water (see attached photo). But it does have viscosity. I went and purchased a quart of the NAPA premium SAE 30 non-detergent motor oil ($3.99) and it has about the same viscosity as the Shell. It does have a slight amber color to it however. I have no doubt that the Shell SAE 30 ND is very similar to the NAPA oil. Both oils are rated as API SB. Use either in the vintage Vespa gear box and ride on.
