Well, I am new to the forum and have been lurking around a few weeks. I just purchased a GT 200l (06-1200mi.) and when I started checking it out I removed the air box bubbles and water poured out. Is this any thing to worry about? I checked the oil and the gear box and did not find any presence of water. The scoot runs great. Any advice would be appreciated.

Was it just water or did it have some coolant in it? Did you check the coolant for proper amount and clarity? If it is just water and your coolant is fine, it may be some water got in there some how during a high pressure wash or one hella rainstorm.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did check the coolant and it seems OK.I guess the next thing to do is remove the filter and see the condition of that. Too hot in garage to do that this afternoon tho. 101F.

Hi there, its more or less impossible for coolant to be in your airfilter so dont panic, the water will more than likely be condensation build up from the scooter not being run long enough to reach optimum temperature for long enough distance to allow evaperation, as the vent pipe is at the highest part of the engine and flows directly into the airfilter it allows the vapour to condense and rest as water in the bubbles.
Cheers Andy

Andy ,Thanks for the info. That makes me feel better. I know in the owners manual it says to look for oil but I was surprised when water flowed out.

Being in Louisiana it is quite possible that the bike was run through very deep standing water, what with our typical 4" per hour thunder bumpers.

Skunkhome you are probably right. I bought the scoot from a guy in Monroe La. and they did have heavy spring rains along with flooding. I just hope it did not go all the way under water. So far it runs great.

I would do an oil change 'just in case'.
(Shell Rotella T6 meets Vespa specs & is fairly priced)
Congrats on the Scooter!

Have you ever seen water in oil? It turns to a grey sludge, if it was there they would know it.

I did look for that "gray color" in both the motor oil and the "gear box" and both looked normal. I do plan on changing all the fluids this weekend just to be sure. I always do that anytime I buy a used bike. Thanks to all of you for your comments. From what I have read, the scoot should be OK.

I would drop the oil in the gearbox and engine just to be on the safe side. All you guys along the Red and Ouachita had a tough spring but the flooding wasn't as extensive as news reports claimed. Your probably safe. BTW, Monroe was my home town.

I was thinking of it as a sign of infrequent use, but if you want to put words in my mouth, feel free.

I've seen water in oil without emulsification, particularly in gear boxes.

OK. I finally got around to taking the air filter out and it was soaked with water and falling apart. Since we have no Vespa dealer here it will take several days to obtain a replacement and I wanted to have this project completed tomorrow. Has anyone tried to make a filter out of foam? I plan on changing all the fluids tomorrow and would like to be able to enjoy it.

It would have to be filter material. I'd be patient and wait for replacement filter if I were you.

Today I changed the oil and gear box (hub) and did not see any sign of water. Next week I will change the coolant and bleed the brakes. It is just too hot to do now. I had a dickens of a time finding the hub drain. Finally had to resort to a you tube video to find it. Already ordered the air filter so by next week I can finally enjoy it. Thank you guys for all your help and advice.

I have always been a Burgman fan having owned a B400 and now a AN650. My wife and I just returned from taking a tour of the U.K and Paris and I have never seen so many scooters in all my life. There has to be more scooters in the city of Paris than in the whole USA, mostly small scooters. After returning, I just had to have one so that's when I found this GT200L. So far it seems like it going to be a lot of fun. I just wish there were more scooter enthusiasts in this area. I think I am the only one.

I believe that the only way to get water in the air filter box is either to ride in high water or be aggressive in a wash job.
