Hello All - new to the forum. Does anyone know anything about this product (see below link). I'm looking for ways to add power to my LX150.

http://www.magnumtuning.com/en/detail/evo-tech-motorcycle-performance-chip/vespa/lx-150-ie

Have also heard about the Malossi 190cc Racing cylinder kit. Does anyone care to share their personal experiences?

That chip kit is for the Fuel Injected LX150ie. You didn't specify what year your ride is, so I'm guessing it a carbed model.

I have a 2009 LX 150. Lovely bike, but would be happy to find some way to give it a little more power for when I'm riding with my wife on the back.

Kit
I had the 190 kit on my LX 150 and it made a big difference while riding two up. It had more torque for takeoff, climbing hills etc.
I had someone else install it, so t was kind of pricey. I thought it was worth it.

Did any issues arise after installation? The climbing hills aspect and accelerating at a green light is what I'm looking for. This isn't something that I could install myself. I believe the kit is about $400. With installation, was the cost over $1k?

No problems
I never had any problems with it, my mechanic had it dialed in perfectly. I don't recall the next owner having any problems with it either.
I would take it on all day rides through the southern Ohio hills, WOT all day.
This was several years ago and the cost was around 900 USD.

+1 on a 190 kit. my guess is that will give you everything you're looking for. pickup, midrange, torque for two up riding. anything else you do now won't net the same immediate and noticeable gains, however those upgrades will compliment the kit nicely. namely a variator.

I have just installed a 190 kit and highly recommend it. The difference is noticeable in initial go, roll on power and hill climbing. Good bang for the buck if you install yourself.

190 kit. Rolf (Head Vespa tech for Piaggio, now deceased ) came over to show us how to work on our scooters a while ago. He threw a 190 kit on a friends LX150. He was against doing mods and said keeping the scooters stock was the best thing for longevity but he said the 190 kit was a good option as long as it's done by somebody who knows what their doing. Good luck

One more vote for the 190 kit. Slapped one on my 2007 LX about 14K miles ago, and it's been performing like a champ ever since. By far the most bang for the buck.

The kit's less than $300, and any good shop can install it. There is no replacement for displacement.

How many hours labour do you figure it would take for an install?

you'll gain a few mph on the top end, but the performance really lies in the acceleration and midrange. with the right tuning combo you can pick up the front wheel from a slow roll. realistically, though, it's all about the torque and the ability to not bleed off speed while going uphill.

i'd expect a shop to charge 4~5hr or something in the $350 range. if you're a DIY'er and in your garage at home it's something you could probably tackle over a weekend. if you're an ace wrench and your garage is outfitted i'd say you could knock one out on a long saturday-- but that's a grind.

there's a lot of little things that require not only attention to detail but product expertise. that's the difference between one that runs good and one that runs great; and those that last and those that don't.

I did mine on my own. Took lots of care and photos. It took a weekend to complete and goes great.

I did Ivana Tinkle's LX over a weekend. Left everything else stock, not even a re-jet. Runs beautifully - but the extra compression meant a Motobatt battery had to be installed. When cold, on the first push of the starter it reaches the top of the stroke and dies. Second push it swings past that and roars into life. A bit like kick-starting.

Mine is exactly the same. Battery copes but sometimes won't kick over compression. Another touch on the starter usually makes it go ok.

Can anyone in LA recommend someone that can install the Malossi 190 kit. I talked to a guy at Sherman Oaks Vespa and he doesn't perform these types of modifications. He actually encouraged me not to do it, but there have been too many advocates on this forum who have had success with this upgrade, and so I feel comfortable moving forward with someone experienced in this type of modification.

I'm in the North Hollywood area.

Thanks
