. So sorry. That would piss me off to have a camera tell me that i'm speeding and have a ticket automatically generated without a human ever interacting with me. At least over here we have a fighting chance to get out of it. Have come up with some good excuses over the years. Laughing emoticon

Got one of those about 6 months ago..........I got a ticket for 30 in a 25. No school zone or hospital or anything. Just a larger residential street. I guess some city council member must live on that street. GGGGRRRRRR they have mobile cameras here and you never know where they will be. If there is a silver lining, at least here, it is only for revenue collecting here. It doesn't remove/add up points on your record. More frustrating that anything.

F i'd still be pissed. Laughing emoticon We had white vans that had cameras in them back a few years ago. People got pissed and judges would dismiss the ticket if you went to court because it wasn't given by a PO. Gotta love Hawaii.

They have been trying to get them outlawed here, a big movement in Denver has been working on it. They have changed the law here some but still get the ticket with fine. They used to charge you court costs and points but got it all reduced to just the fine, so they have admitted that it is just about the revenue for the most part.

I got done twice in the space of minutes!

I was going to Portmeirion in North Wales for the day, missed the turn off the main road and went past a hidden speed cop, turned round and came past him again!

If I hadn't missed the turn, I wouldn't have passed him

That is bad luck, reminds me of a friend who got "clocked" on his way home from a "speeding awareness course"!

F Livid emoticon Can you contest them? I'd pull over and would be yelling at the camera attached to light pole. Laughing emoticon Probably be carted off to the looney bin.

Speeding cameras popped up all over the Phoenix area a few years ago. The state gave access to the licensing and motor vehicle registration databases to the camera operator, who generated the tickets and gave a cut to the state. The governor championed the speed cameras as a way to increase safety on the roads, then had to admit later the whole idea was to generate money for the general fund.

People fought them in court just as they did in Hawaii, or just threw them out, as no followup was done. The papers got hold of the just-for-the-money concept and ran with it so within a couple years the same governor fought to get them all taken down.

Early on they were contested here and that is why they stopped assessing points and dropped the court costs. They said otherwise the fact is the vehicle was speeding and it is a fact that it is "your" vehicle and even if you loned it out you are responsible for it. So since they took away all the punishment of points it is just a revenue generating system.

Perhaps there are residents with small kids that aren't so keen on people speeding through their road?

Not really. The signs are there asking you to keep to a certain speed. If you don't then the fines kind of reinforce that message.

I live on a quiet residential street beside a park where the speed limit is 20mph. In all honesty I can put up with people driving along at ~30mph but we still have the occasional idiot going down the road at 80mph. I had speed bumps installed when a pizza delivery rider removed his helmet to read the house numbers and was then hit by a speeding car - he died on the road outside my house. My previous car was then written off while parked, when a driver hit the new bumps so hard he lost control. A month or so back we had a driver lose control on a corner and plough through a bunch of cars before ending up in a garden - he was drugged up to the eye balls and stark naked! Early each morning everyone on our road has to listen to a rider on his GSXR750 (with race can) bouncing of the rev limiter as races down the length of our road. It just gets a bit tiresome after a time.

30 in a 25 is not speeding out of control but it is speeding none the less and yes since they took the "bite" out if it, it is just a revenue collection process. $45 is not enough to hurt or impress anyone in this part of the world but because it's not ppl don't slow down, they just pay and drive. PPL can get a half dozen of these and with no ill affects from it other than they can't go out a weekend or two at worst. If they got just a couple in the same time frame with the points enforced here their license would be endangered.

I was just trying to show the other side. I fully understand 30 isn't that much different to 25mph but when residents ask the police to monitor their road then the police will just stop all traffic over the speed limit. I'm certainly no angel but I try to ride quietly through residential areas - no loud exhausts, I almost never use the horn and I'm particularly careful around schools etc.
