Took a very wet ride home the other day and now my '79 P200 will start for 10 seconds or so but then die (and stay dead). I've blown out the kill switch and also removed the plug. No change yet. Anything else I should be looking to dry out?

It does sound like a fuel delivery issue. But first check for spark. Once you have spark, move onto fuel flow. If no spark, pull the outer green wire at the CDI to bypass the kill switch. If you have spark then, you have a short in the kill switch wire. Let us know how it goes. And welcome to MV. Next time post on the Non-Modern forum as you will get more responses.

Stator could have gotten water brought in via the flywheel. Get your leaf blower/air compressor out and blast it.

I'm trying to remember the steps I took but all good now. I took off the outside green wire to bypass the kill. No change. Pulled the spark plug and confirmed spark.

Got out the air compressor and went crazy on anything I could blow out. Blew out the spark plug and engine, carburetor, flywheel (got my finger stuck in that... black fingernail impending). Anyway - eventually kicked over and I let it idle for 10 minutes before riding.

Thanks for the suggestions! Riding into work tomorrow (and not taking the bus). A good day!
