Actually, the three zones is a pretty good idea. I mean, they of course would be open to all, should someone feel like getting a tag in a different zone. But I think if we split it up, more of us might get to play more often. I enjoyed the game while it was here and miss playing.

George, how far up coast highway were you thinking the south might include?

What do the rest of you think? Should we split it up?

I would think that Newport Blvd and PCH would be a good cut off point for the South. But I think that any division would allow more people to join in the game especially those whose time is limited due to work, kids, school etc.

So, basically, we'd have Laguna Beach to San Clemente and Irvine to the coast (Irvine included). That sounds good, George. Would you like to start the new thread devoted to South Orange County Scooter Tag and post the first tag (along with the basic instructions for playing)?

Please don't split OC into two or three tag threads.
All the games bog down from time to time. This thread has gone much longer than 20 days without a tag and managed to recover, most recently thanks to ScooterFish.
Is there a way to find out if anybody's gonna go get it? If not, maybe give Mandi_LX the opportunity to post an alternate.

What difference does it make if it gets split into two or three sections? You would still be able to tag in all three if you wanted. Some of us never get to North county. And some of the North county people never get down here. I don't understand what the problem is. The games would still be open to all, but would just give more of us a chance to play more often. I like the idea.

This thread can stay just like it is, actually, and Mandi's tag doesn't have to change. But I don't see anything wrong with having a separate thread for south county.

Update: this is now a regional tag for just South Orange County: Irvine and south-east of it.

Tustin to Newport Beach, and everything north-west of it are on their own. Split it up as you see fit.

That said, maybe I can find the location of the last tag and get it after work on Sunday. It's a dirty job, but somebody has got to do it. If you north OC riders can't get your butt on the scooter, we SoOC riders have to do it for you.

Anybody want to beat me to it? I'd be happy to be late to this game (but I'm still playing).

If I am held up or the scooter decides otherwise, the South is fair game for anyone to post a new regional tag as of Monday.

This feels...bogus. I know it's your thread Windbreaker (Moped) and you can do with it what you want, but I feel a bit...excluded.

Sorry if you feel excluded, it was not my intention to exclude anyone. And let me state this clearly: nobody is actually excluded to participate, even if you were from Kansas.
What I did was exclude a northern region that just makes the area too big for most. If you look at other tag threads, they center on just one city. We now center on half a county, with probably more than 1.5 million inhabitants. That's huge.

I'll prove my point of non-exclusion by venturing into now-unclaimed territory tonight and grab the oil pump tag. Everybody could have done it, for weeks, and nobody did--because it is too far for them

The Oil Pump tag has been on my mind a lot. Just too busy in the late summer to get up there. I did have one open day I seriously considered it, but I really wanted to install my Stebel horn while I had the chance and that took too much of the day.

I started a new thread and not sure where that will go. All are welcome to play as they can on that one as well. I am hoping it will encourage more options for more people to play, but it may just fracture what few people are playing, who knows.

I will probably play both tags when time allows.

Does the oil rig tag need be tagged before the "South" of "South Orange County Tag" goes into effect?

Or can Windbreaker start us off again with a new tag within the appropriate boundaries?

It was a fantastic ride. Basically one straight line from Crawford Cyn, off of Newport Blvd in Orange, all the way to Brea, and then on Brea Blvd and Brea Cyn Rd. Even at night, the site was easy to find. Well, Google Earth helped a lot. So, there:

South Orange county does not include newport beach, correct? If Yardsale is getting the tag, I'm imagining it is in Newport or somewhere up north. I thought we were taking Laguna Beach and areas south.

I know where that is. I WAS planning to go up to SLO and do a ride with friends this coming weekend, but since I'm no longer doing that, I'll potentially get to this TAG this weekend if it's still the TAG spot.

I think Newport IS included in south Orange... Irvine, to the coast and below, I believe is what was said.

That doesn't seem to include Costa Mesa, which some could argue should be included in South, but that starts a slippery slope...

I'd say, we could more easily say everything south-west of the 55 fwy and Irvine Blvd. I'd say something like the pic below (Note, I didn't include the southern-most part of Orange County for picture size reasons... but that zone is pretty easily understood.) ANyway, here's MY suggestion... feel free to argue the merits of different boundries

Here are my thoughts on the boundaries .... a lot of us don't have the bigger scoots and can't go on the freeway. Even some of the surface streets are like freeways ... the section of coast highway betweeen Newport and Laguna Beach is one. Anything past Laguna is out for me, especially if I am riding alone, which is usually the case. If I could make all the way to Newport, I wouldn't have any problem getting to Huntington since they are right next door.

Costa Mesa, Huntington, Newport and Carona Del Mar all run together. If we take Newport as a south county beach city, That doesn't leave too much coastal for the Northern folks.

If the goal of the game is to get more people to play, why can't we let the Northern peeps have Newport, Corona Del Mar and Costa Mesa? That still leaves us plenty of areas to tag around here.

I'm fine with a somewhat soft border for tags. The 55FWY as hard border is fine too. It should be in the interest of any participant to keep this game going, so, the harder you make your tag accessible, the slower the game will be.

That said, I'm quoting myself to answer Alice's question about YS coming over the border: So, if Kansas qualifies, Huntington Beach should too, right?
The limitations are just for the location of the tag. Not for the home location of the participant.

Instead of making this so complicated and endlessly discussing about where and where not south OC ends, why don't we just sort of wing it and concentrate on playing. If one particular participant is limited due to the scooter's abilities, then that person just can't get every single tag. Sorry.

Never mind. You are obviously running the show and setting the rules. I didn't realize you owned the game. It seems like we were all having a discussion about the possibility of splitting off another area ... having nothing at all to do with the thread that you started ... and everyone was giving their input and ideas. Seriously, when I bought up the idea of starting a new thread for the south, it was because riding up to the Newport/Huntigton area rarely seemed to happen for the folks down here, and vise versa.

I thought it was a good idea to split it up into sections that most of us rode in. It was never a thought to keep anyone from playing in either area .... that would just be stupid. It was just to make more tags available for tagging and maybe more of us could get a chance to play more often.

When you jumped the g-u-n and changed the thread to include Newport Beach, it left us with the same problem .... farther than most people here ride on their normal days. It just makes sense to make the boundaries based on how and where people ride on most days, so that maybe we could play while we were doing our daily running around.

I had every intention of starting a new thread that would allow more of us to play. Your thread could have stayed just like it was for all the people who were happy with things the way they were.

It's like you never even waited for the discussion to be over before you jumped in, declared the boundaries, and decided what was best for everyone. Then basically said, if you don't like it ... sorry.

Well, as soon as this game got a boss, it started sounding a whole lot less like fun and a whole lot more like work.

Dana Point. Proud Mary's is now being rebuilt. 8)
