Did the K & N filter.....

It rocks my world......(well, for the most part)....

You can hear it at Kings classic this weekend.....

You do notice a difference in acceleration......

You can get them at 'battlescooter.com'......

Just ask Jason for the K & N for the gts.

I got no Polini, but I got a 140 delivered today, courtesy of Motorsport Scooters.

What's the inside diameter on the neck of that filter? I was thinking of going a different route.

Ahhhh its been a while since I posted.

Summit Racing has them for $10 less.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=knn-rc-0790

I thought I heard of people poo pooing K&N for some reason? It has to be a better filter than stock foam with oil.

Whats the general opinion out there guys?

Too small. There's about a million K&N filters.

I totally agree!

The only filter listed on the battlescooter site was the one I found for much less at Summit Racing.

How about clearing this all up with part numbers and such?

The filter is not on the web page for Battlescooter, new item.

'140' refers to rear tire size......

Testing being done as of today, tomorrow.....

Pics will post here after Classic this weekend......

Well if we have to wait the whole weekend we expect greatness! Pictures, performance stats, sound clips, and videos of large breasted dancing girls pointing at the air filter...this should be doable in San Jose.

So the deal is that the filter mod boosts midrange torque and acceleration, but drops top speed a little. Plus it's loud as fuck, and sounds like someone farting continuously down the road.

Here's a question to Jess or anyone else that owns an MP3 and GTS: Do they use the same filter size?

I'd definitely like to open up the breathing, and eventually the exhaust with a LeoVinci system. As long as the fuel injection brain could handle the remix duties, that would/could make a moderate difference in performance!

Interesting.

I put a K&N on the Honda 750 (4xcarbs) and it did not make any perceptible difference in performance -- or sonics for that matter.

The intake opening on the stock air filter is exceptionally small, and a bit circuitous. The K&N allows much more air to come in, and without a lot of twists and turns. Not entirely sure why the additional noise is there, but it's very pronounced and undeniably from the new filter.

Less restrictive intakes are usually louder than more restrictive ones.

Dunno. The K&N is definitely louder, and it doesn't seem possible for it to be more restrictive than the stock airbox, looking at the small hole that air enters through.

Seems like a non-starter in any case. I'm not going to sacrifice my hearing for the torque boost.

No, I meant that the K&N should be louder because it is less restrictive than stock. A restrictive airbox has the same effect that a restrictive exhaust does. It baffles sound quite a bit, lowering noise.

Okay.....the promised update.....

It is LOUD......did I mention it is LOUD?

Very easy mod to do....and then un-do....thankfully.

It may give a bit more in the midrange but it did not reach expectation on the top end.

Did I mention it is loud......like train horn loud....like bleeding ears LOUD....

I forgot the earplugs once......only once thou.....

It was worth a try....perhaps it works better with a pipe.....LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD..........

Got earplugs?

Have you checked the exhaust air fuel ratio to see if the scoot can cope with the extra air? I wouldn't be surprised if you are running quite lean.

Has anyone tried to just increase the size of the hole for the stock air filter to let more air in?

I don't know if the noise would increase, but shouldn't the slight performance boost be the same?

the stock filter is a thin piece of foam, I dont think you want it to be any less.

Just remember, anytime you increase flow, you decrease filtration, unless you increase surface area. Im sure the conical filter does have more surface area than stock, but I agree about sucking hot motor air. IMO the best compromise would be to keep the stock filter and just open up the inlet.

I once had a Bajaj Chetak that I made a custom intake system the used a 2 1/4" heavy hose draping back over the engine for about 14", ending in a K+N cone that was exposed near the rear shock. It got a ton of forced air that way!! Changed the jets size, custom made a pipe and header from a V star... I was able to hit 60 in 3rd gear!!!
I also have a K+N cold air system on my 02 Chevy Avalanche(Big enough to haul Tubas AND scooters at the same time). The Truck has over 160K on it now....bought it new, and changed the intake right away. That, plus a few other mods to the truck....23mpg's on the highway!!! Compression is balanced and tight, even after all those miles! I have had 0 problems with the truck...only on its' second set of tires! (I'm not pushing Chevy's...just illustrating how bad the 'damage' can be from a K+N set up). HOWEVER, I changed oil every 3500 miles religiously, too. TubaJim
