had my bike sitting for some time and haven't checked on it for ages. got back to it and oil is just about everywhere. all around the sight glass but also seemingly seeping through the arch and seems toward the back of feet rest, and of course a huge puddle on the ground. all i can think is it must be either a crack on site glass ( which on first inspection not noticeable ), or otherwise on the seal where sight glass goes to oil reservoir. am i on the right track? and would i be correct in thinking i need to remove tank to fix?? any thoughts thanks in advance

I know pics would help but I'm a Luddite w luddite phone and unable to post pics. Since cleaning all the mess up and coming back to bike a line or stream / drip of oil is running down from where sight glass is and oil seeping out on LHS in where the floor pan meets main body of bike. I'm thinking it is sight glass or oil tank and that there may be a nice pool of oil in there. Before I take tank out I need to source another sight glass here in sydney if anyone has any ideas..... Otherwise I think gps in melbs is the go.

Cracked oil tank or split oil hose? Pull the fuel tank before you order anything. That way you'll know exactly what you need. GPS will be the quickest and most expensive option.

Hey joshbangbang, thanks for the offer bro but negative not in Perth but I used to get over there pretty regularly. I've drained the oil out in prep to get tank out and revealed definite crack in sight glass. In fact now that oil level is below crack line not leaking anymore. Gonna have a go at pulling tank out and might change fuel and oil lines while I'm at it......... Thanks mate

diconect the fuel line at the carby, disconnect the oil line at the carby, put fuel tap lever facing upwards and remove the split grommet with a small flathead
,undo the wiring from the float by removing cover and unplugging the three wires, undo all four bolts and then lift the tank from the back first then up and out. |

Thanks josh..... Will give it a go an report back...... BUT anyone out there had a go at just unscrewing it ( now that I drained oil ), and pulling straight out through its locating hole on body and then screwing new one back in??? Looks like it can be done... Or this this just a stupid idea.

I'd just pull the tank so you can mop up the oil in the frame. I think you had a good idea replacing the hoses. The petrol line gets brittle after awhile and splits. Replace it with a proper black rubber fuel line from an auto parts store.

I now put some tape around the glass before I position it in the tank. First time I did it I managed to scrape the glass on the frame, scratching the plastic.
